Of these two new SUVs from Honda based on the Amaze’s 2UA platform, one will is going to be a sub-4-meter offering while the other placed in a segment above.
Honda Car India clocked a 23% increase in sales for the month of January 2019 in comparison to the sales it achieved for the same month last year. The Japanese automaker managed to do the same riding high on the shoulders of the all-new Amaze, the City facelift, WR-V crossover and the recently launched CR-V SUV.
That said, Honda is the only automobile manufacturer in amongst the current top-five in India which does not have a strong contender in the sub-4-meter SUV and the compact SUV segments in our country. The WR-V, which is essentially a Jazz-based crossover, though clocking decent sales for the manufacturer, still is not able to attract the fancies of buyers looking for a compact utility vehicle with an upright stance. Similarly, the BR-V, which is based on the old Amaze platform, though priced in the same range as that of the Hyundai Creta, adorns more of an MPV aesthetics and hence currently has dwindling sales numbers.

Thanks to the response that this automaker received for the WR-V crossover, it is now has begun working on two new SUVs for the Indian market which is going to offer that up-right stance that the buyers are looking for. Both these SUVs will be based on the platform which currently underpins the second generation Honda Amaze. Internally known as the 2UA, this platform has been designed in order to accommodate utility vehicle in the near future.

These said two new SUV based on the current generation platform of the Amaze will target the sub-4-meter and above 4-meter segments respectively. The under 4-meter SUV will essentially act as the replacement of the WR-V crossover or could even sell alongside it as well. It will be the same engine line-up as the crossover i.e. a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine.

The larger above 4-meter SUV will act as a replacement of the BR-V. And hence is going to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta and the Nissan Kicks. It is going to use Honda’s 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine while on the other hand, the diesel derivative is going to be the same 1.5-litre i-DTEC unit.
