A viral image on Whatsapp shows the list of 2-stroke bikes and scooters that will be banned from plying on the Indian roads after April 2019.
To battle with the growing pollution, stricter emission norms are set to kick in from April 2020. The whole emission norms started way back in 1991.
At that time, government made it mandatory for every vehicle to have a catalytic converter. It was this time, when unleaded petrol was introduced in India.
By the late 1990s, most of the 2-stroke bikes and scooters were spotted. Gradually, all these popular two-wheelers started disappearing. In 2010, Transport Authority denied registration for 2-stroke bikes.

Vehicles more than 15 years old will not be registered. In Delhi NCR, such vehicles are not even allowed to ply on the road. The pollution levels are increasing as the day goes.
Talking about the recent events, a WhatsAppw image shows a list of 2-stroke bikes and scooters to be banned from April 2019. The list includes Yamaha RD350, RX100, Old Jawa and Yezdi, Suzuki Shogun, Kinetic Honda, Bajaj Chetak and more.
These 2-stroke bikes and scooters were once a delight to own. Yamaha RD350, RX100 and Yezdis are some of the legendary bikes that used to rule the Indian roads at that time.

This whole scene started when Karnataka Government banned the use of two-stroke three-wheelers post April 2019. Amidst this decision, many top government officials added the ban of 2-stroke bikes to the decision.
However, as of now, the decision has been talked about in Karnataka state. Other states have not decided or taken up this matter yet. There are chances that NGT might declare a ban soon, at least in Delhi NCR.
However, RTOs cannot ban a vehicle from the roads. Many rumours have been suggesting that RTOs will impose a ban. Only the government of a certain state can take such decision.

So, it is still pending whether beloved bikes like Yamaha RX100, Yezdi and Suzuki Shogun can be allowed to run on the roads.
