The new Yamaha FZ V3 has finally been launched in India. It gets new features and ABS, which might put Apache 160 on a sticky turf.
Yamaha India just launched the new FZ V3 in India with new features, revisions in the styling and ABS. It competes with the likes of TVS Apache 160, Honda CB Hornet 160R, Pulsar NS160 and Suzuki Gixxer.
The new version sports a new fully digital LCD cluster, LED headlights, Single Step-up Seat and a single-ABS setup. It continues with the fuel injection system.
Yamaha FZ comes in the 150-160cc sporty segment, which ranges bikes near Rs 1 Lakh. These bikes are basically sporty looking commuters, made for both the worlds.

In this segment, TVS Apache 160 sells the most. Actually, Apache 160 is amongst the top 10 selling motorcycles in India. Other bikes in this segment are usually not that great selling.
However, we believe the new Yamaha FZ V3 might give some good competition to the Apache in coming months. The updated FZ now offers more features than Apache.
Starting off with the main, Yamaha FZ V3 gets single-channel ABS. Apache does not offer one even on option. It still comes with a front disc as standard and rear disc as an option.

FZ V3 also offers full LED headlamps, unlike Apache which just gives LED position lamps. Other minor things include FZ V3 being lighter by 10 kgs and having a slightly bigger fuel tank capacity.
However, in terms of power figures, Apache 160 beats Yamaha FZ V3. Apache sports a 159.7cc oil-cooled 4-valve engine which produces 16.8 BHP and 14.8 Nm of peak torque.
On the other hand, FZ gets a 149cc air-cooled 2-valve engine that puts out 13.2 BHP and 12.8 Nm of peak torque.
Yamaha FZ-V3 is priced at Rs 95,000. The top-end variant of Apache goes up to Rs 92,145 (ex-showroom prices). With ABS, the prices of Apache will turn to be higher than that of FZ.

Although, if TVS tries to put Apache ABS in a price range near to FZ, probably, its sales would remain unaffected. The monthly sales results would tell us the further situation.
