Bajaj Urbanite Electric scooter brand will launch soon in India, as confirmed by Bajaj Auto. The first one expected in future is its electric motorcycle.
Bajaj Auto recently sent a media invite for announcing an initiative journey. At the event, Amitabh Kant, CEO of Niti Aayog was called. Like everyone, we expected that the brand will launch a new electric scooter.
In our earlier report, the Pune-based two-wheeler brand confirmed that they are working on a mass-market produced electric bike, sold under the brand name Bajaj Urbanite. We speculate the bike to launch in 2020.
The reports stated that Bajaj will launch new electric two-wheelers under Bajaj Urbanite. The sub-brand will consist of only electric scooters and bikes. Earlier, we speculated Bajaj to launch an alone zero-emission fully electric scooter.

With Bajaj Urbanite, the brand plans to become an Indian bike-market Tesla. It wants to follow a top to down approach, starting from bikes, to scooter and then to Electric three-wheelers.
The first electric bike from Bajaj is expected to be a performance-based motorcycle, positioned at the premium-end. It will compete with the likes of upcoming Tork T6X electric bike.
In July last year, we reported that Bajaj is planning to bring Chetak back to the stables. Along with a conventionally powered scooter, an electric variant of the same is also being considered.

Bajaj will position the electric scooter at the premium end but will keep it as a mass-produced product. As of now, we have speculations regarding these two electric products.
Not only Bajaj, but many two-wheeler brands are foraying in the electric two-wheeler market. Many electric two-wheeler start-ups have also come up in the recent past.
Hero Motocorp already has 4 electric scooters, which are performing well. TVS also has plans to launch a performance based electric scooter as well as an electric bike.

Startups in the business include Ather Energy, Twenty-Two motors, Okinawa and Avon Motors. Okinawa is launching a new electric scooter this month. Avon is planning to launch one every six months, starting this year.
