The next-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio is likely to make its debut in India either before or during the Auto Expo event scheduled for next year.
Maruti Suzuki is currently working extensively to revamp its entire product portfolio. With a top-to-bottom approach, the last product from the Indo-Japanese automaker to receive a major upgrade was the Ertiga MPV. And the next product in-line for the same is the Wagon R hatchback. After the launch of the same, Maruti Suzuki’s next major product upgrade is going to be of the Celerio hatchback. Though the details are not confirmed as of yet there have been reports stating that the new iteration of the Celerio could very well make its debut in India within a year’s time.

Since this is going to be a full-model upgrade, the next-generation Maruti Celerio will receive a major alteration of its exterior as well as interior design. Since this hatchback sits effectively above the WagonR, expect it to come with features such as projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights with the former misses out on. Similarly, on the inside, in addition to a touchscreen infotainment system and steering mounted controls, the new Celerio is going to come with automatic climate control and probably, rear-air-con vents as well.

The current generation Maruti Celerio is available with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine under its hood. However, since the launch of its next-gen iteration is going to be close towards the BS-VI emission deadline, expect it to come with a BS-VI complaint iteration of Suzuki’s 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine. The present generation model was responsible for bringing the concept of AMT gearboxes to the masses. Hence, the new iteration will continue with the manual as well as automatic transmission options on offer.

Unlike the current generation which had a diesel engine in its portfolio, the next-gen Maruti Celerio will not get an oil-burner in its portfolio. Even the one in the current iteration was discontinued due to poor sales. The reason why it may not find a place in the generation update is primarily that of the costs. With BS-VI complaint hardware installed, a diesel engine in a budget vehicle in the Celerio might turn out to be quite expensive.
