Hyundai Styx sub-compact SUV will make its world premiere at the New York Auto Show in April 2019 post which, it will launch in India to rival Vitara Brezza.
We are all well aware of the fact that Hyundai is currently working on an all-new sub-compact SUV which it plans to launch in India to rival against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and the upcoming Mahindra XUV300. First showcased as a concept during the 2016 Auto Expo, the test mule of this urban SUV’s production iteration has been spotted testing in India and abroad several times within the last couple of months. A recent report published in NDTV states that Hyundai’s all-new sub-compact SUV will bear the nameplate of “Styx” after the famous Greek Mythical river and goddess. The said report also states that the Hyundai Styx will make its first global premiere in April this year at the upcoming New York Auto Show. Yes, as you may have guessed it by now, this all-new sub-compact SUV is not going to retail exclusively in the Indian market but stand a global product for the brand.

The Hyundai Styx is based on the same underpinnings as that the current generation Hyundai Grand i10 and the Xcent. In fact, the same platform is going to be used by Kia for their own sub-compact SUV. Not only this, but this very platform will be used to spawn an all-new MPV for the Indian as well as the European market. In addition to the Indian market, the Styx will retail in countries such as the US and several European countries.

Though the engine specifications of the Hyundai Styx are still under the wraps, there have been speculations that this vehicle will debut with multiple powertrain options. For the Indian market, this SUV is going to be offered with a 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol and engine and a 1.2-litre, diesel unit. It will come as standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox but there will be an AMT unit on offer as well.

In terms of features, the Hyundai Styx is going to offer an electric sunroof, LED daytime running lights, projector headlamps, touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple Car Play, keyless entry among other equipment. In its list for the safety features, this SUV will include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, autonomous braking, rear parking sensors and camera among other equipment.
The Hyundai Styx will find its place in-between the i20 and the Creta in the brand’s portfolio in India. Hence we can expect this vehicle to adorn a price tag which is going to fall in-between the range of INR 7.5 lakh to 10 lakh.
