At a time when the future of the Maruti Alto 800 is in constant debate, a rendering of its RS iteration puts the fun back in the hatchback.
With the deadline for the new emission and crash test regulations right around the corner, the future of India’s some of the largest selling vehicles in under constant debate. One such model is the entry-level hatchback Maruti Alto 800. Rumours sparked a couple of months back of the Indo-Japanese automaker discontinuing the Alto from India starting 2019 which were later termed incorrect by the automobile manufacturer.
The Alto 800 has been topping the charts as the largest selling vehicle in India year after year. However, due to lack of an update and an outdated feature list in the wake of increasing competition, it recently lost its crown to its younger sibling, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire for the year 2018. Buzz in the Motown suggests that Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce a major update for the Alto 800 sometime during the year 2020. Ahead of which, it will update the same with minor alterations to meet the upcoming safety and emission regulations.

At a time when the future of the Maruti Alto 800 hangs in uncertainty, a rendering of what this humble hatchbacks’ RS iteration, by SRK design, puts a smile on our faces. You see, Maruti Suzuki has been introducing RS iterations of its existing model line-up in India as special edition versions of several models. Majority of these were pure aesthetic alterations with no mechanical changes, for instance, the Swift RS and Ciaz RS.

However, there have been one, the Baleno RS which saw the automaker introduce a new and more powerful engine altogether. A similar treatment is expected for the current iteration of the Swift hatchback as well.

The rendering of the Maruti Alto 800 RS comes with a heavily modified front fascia. It gets headlamps from the current generation Maruti Swift. A grille from the Ford family and a very aggressive front bumper with large air-dams. It even gets funky alloy wheels with a multi-spoke layout.
