A fresh set to spy images completely reveals the new Maruti Wagon R 2019 as units start arriving at dealership ahead of its launch on 23rd January.
The next-generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is all set to launch in India on the 23rd of January 2019. Ahead of its official debut, as updated units of this hatchback start arriving at dealerships, a number of spy shots of the same have started circulating on the internet. A recent set of such images completely reveals the interior cabin layout and the exterior design updates that this compact hatchback is going to receive with this third generation update.
The new Maruti Wagon R 2019, as seen in these images comes with a complete overhaul of its exterior design. That said, it continues to maintain its tall-boy stance. Up-front, this car comes with square headlamps which have been given a slight kink at the edges to keep things interesting. Just like its recently introduced competition, the Hyundai Santro, the new Wagon R also misses out on projector units as well as LED daytime running lamps.
The side profile continues to remain plane however Maruti has thrown in a few creases to avoid it looking too simple. The vehicle seen in the spy images is a top-spec variant and features steel wheels. The rear fascia gets large tail-lamps which kink at the bottom.

The cabin of the Maruti Wagon R 2019 features a dual-tone colour scheme of black and beige. The layout remains very simple and feels that it belongs to a budget segment vehicle. The instrument cluster comes with an analogue dial for the speedometer along with a small digital dial which is likely to display fuel, mileage, heating and other vehicle-related information.
The central console of the new Maruti Wagon R comes with the automaker’s Smartplay infotainment system. However, just like the Santro, the new Wagon R also misses out on automatic climate control. It does come with steering mounted audio controls and a power socket at the front. The new iteration of the Wagon R will now come with beige upholstery for the seat. And judging by the images it seems that the car’s boot-capacity has also increased.

The new Maruti Wagon R 2019 will undergo a major heart transplant. With this iteration, Maruti is going to replace the existing 1.1-litre, 3-cylinder engine with the Swift’s 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder engine. It remains to be seen if the automaker alters the power and torque outputs of this engine or keeps it the same at 82 BHP and 114 Nm. Transmission duties will be taken care by a 5-speed manual gearbox along with an optional AMT unit.
