Royal Enfield could be developing a more powerful Himalayan 650. As of now, there are only speculations of the ADV bike launching next year.
In recent reports, Siddhartha Lal, CEO of Royal Enfield, confirmed that they would not bring new bikes on the 650 Twins’ platform for the next two years. Although, he did not rule out the possibility of more 650cc models.
We all know that Royal Enfield is planning a more powerful version of its dual-purpose Himalayan. Its specially developed 411cc engine, as per public opinion, feels a bit underpowered.
So, there are chances of Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 being under development. However, we believe that the launch might happen in 2020. Our expected launch period is based on Siddhartha Lal’s statement.

Moreover, Himalayan 650 might make use of the same engine that comes with RE Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. The 650cc twin-cylinder engine is Royal Enfield’s most powerful engine in current production cycle.
The primary reason for postponing the development of more 650cc engine models is the upcoming emission norms. Currently, RE is gearing up for updating its remaining motorcycles with ABS for the safety regulations.
Following which, it wants to focus on equipping its existing lineup with BS-6 compliant engines. The emission norms kick in from April 2020.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 650 will get the parallel-twin cylinder engine, which is newly developed. The engine produces 47 BHP @ 7,100 RPM and 52 Nm @ 4,000 RPM of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Himalayan currently uses a 411cc single-cylinder engine that produces 24.5 BHP and 32 Nm of peak torque. The engine pairs up with a 5-speed gearbox.
The prices of Himalayan 650 could go up to Rs 2.5 Lakhs or so. The current Himalayan goes for Rs 1.81 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
Royal Enfield is also planning to bring new generations along with new models at the 2020 Auto Expo. The existing models will be updated with new engines and a lighter frame.
Based on its P, Q, J and K platforms, some new models will also debut. As of now, there are no bikes in production from Q and K platforms. J platform houses the Classic, Bullet and Thunderbird series. P platform houses the 650 Twins.
Q and K platforms will include bikes having an engine capacity of over 650cc.

Along with the Himalayan 650, there are rumours of a 650cc Thunderbird also consideration. Thunderbird is the lone cruiser in the lineup, whilst rest are either cafe racers, street racers or ADV bikes.
