Royal Enfield is planning to introduce new and updated iterations of its entire lineup. The updated models might be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo.
Royal Enfield has begun its preparations for the 2020 Auto Expo. After the recently launched 650 Twins, the motorcycle brand has new products in mind as well as updates to the existing ones.
A couple of months back, reports suggested that RE is working to introduce new motorcycles on 4 platforms – P, J, Q and K. These 4 platforms will spawn the future lineup of the brand.
In an interview to ET Auto, Siddhartha Lal, CEO of Royal Enfield said, ” Our new product introduction takes three-and-a-half to four years. We have been working on all our BS-VI products. And we think we have an amazing generation of new products that are going to come out for BS-VI. In all of our testing, we’re already way below the BS-VI emission requirements. So, from a purely technical perspective, we are meeting all the emission requirements.

Based on this statement, we can say new-generation models with BS-6 engines will come in 2020. The upcoming lineup might fit some new models as well as new generations of the existing models.
‘J’ platform is for the existing models – Himalayan, Classic, Thunderbird and Bullet. So, new generations of these models might debut in 2020.
‘P’ platform houses the 650 Twins and more models based on the Twins. While Royal Enfield has made it clear that no bikes on ‘P’ platform will be built, until next two years.
So, new motorcycles based on the platform of 650 Twins are confirmed for 2020. Speculations say that it might be a Scrambler and a 650cc Himalayan.

The remaining ‘Q’ and ‘K’ platforms are reserved for high-capacity motorcycles. RE is planning to invade the motorcycle segment above 650cc. In this segment, Harley Davidson and Triumph are the main players.
At the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Royal Enfield unveiled the 838cc twin-cylinder KX concept. However, its production will be decided on the basis of customer reaction. This motorcycle could either fit in ‘Q’ or ‘K’ platform.
Also, the KX concept if in production, will be larger than the showcased concept. It will be a Bobber-styled motorcycle, inspired from the earlier Bobbers.
