If you have been wondering as to when Maruti Suzuki is going to launch a genuine contender to rival the success of the Hyundai Creta, then you will be happy to know that the same might happen soon.
Currently, for Maruti Suzuki, the S-Cross has been holding the fort in the segment of sub-premium compact SUV in India. That said, even with a recent facelift which saw its sales increase substantially, the S-Cross is not able to match up to the same sales figures as the Korean soft-roader.
However, with Hyundai working on a next-generation iteration of the Creta and the S-Cross gradually reaching its product maturity stage, Maruti Suzuki is all set to reveal the Ace up its sleeve
According to a recent report published in Gaadiwaadi.com, Maruti Suzuki is cosidering to launch the next-generation of the global Suzuki Grand Vitara in India. The launch of this sub-premium compact soft-roader is likely to take place sometime during the year 2020.
However, ahead of its official launch, Maruti Suzki might just decide to debut the same at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The interesting thing to note here is that just like Hyundai, who is likely to introduce a 7-seater version of the Creta with the generation update, Maruti Suzuki might too launch a similar capacity iteration of the Grand Vitara in India. Both these vehicles are expected to launch in India during the year 2020.
All that said, this is not the only utility vehicle segment in which Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai will be locking horns with each others. Come next year and Hyundai is finally going to introduce its own iteration of a sub-compact SUV in the Indian market.
Based on the Carlino concept showcased wayback in 2016 Auto Expo, this compact utility vehicle will take the fight to the current segment leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
Hyundai has already commenced the testing of this new sub-4-meter SUV on Indian roads. And the word on the street is that the automaker is going to launch it in India sometime during the first half of 2019.
All that said, it is not just Maruti and Hyundai which are going to go one on one in the fight for the title in the sub-compact SUV segment in India. Around the time of the launch of the Hyundai Carlino based SUV, Mahindra is likely to introduce the S201 in the Indian market as well. Not only this, but there is one sub-4-meter compact SUV coming to India from the stables of Jeep as well.
Coming back to the sub-premium compact SUV segment, in addition to the Maruti Grand Vitara and the next-generation Hyundai Creta, several other new players will join the fight as well.
