Jeep plans to introduce a 7-seater SUV in the Indian market to take on the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Honda CR-V and the upcoming Mahindra Inferno. The 7-seater SUV will first launch globally, then in the Indian market.
As we know, Jeep is planning to launch 2 new SUVs for the Indian market. It showcased its global future lineup, which includes a lot of new SUVs. The first model will be the Jeep Renegade, which will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and upcoming Nissan Kicks. The second one is an unnamed 7-seater SUV, which squarely aims against Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Honda CR-V and the upcoming Mahindra Inferno. As of now, the SUV has been codenamed as ‘Low-D 3-seater’.
The first upcoming model from the American SUV maker is the Compass Trailhawk. Following which, it will launch the facelifted Wrangler in India. Renegade will launch by mid-next year and then comes the chance for Low-D 3-seater SUV.

It is said that the Low-D SUV will use Jeep’s Small Wide 4×4 platform. This platform comes in many SUVs like Renegade, Compass, Fiat 500X and a couple of pickup trucks. Just like the Compass, we can expect this upcoming SUV to also possess some off-roading abilities.
In the Chinese market, the SUV maker launched Grand Commander, which is a 7-seater SUV. The model was specifically launched for the Chinese market, but a similar looking SUV can come to India.

No other details are known yet. There are chances that Low-D might use Compass’s 2 Litre Multijet turbo diesel engine. This engine puts out 170 BHP and 350 Nm, which suffices for a 7-seater SUV. However, it might carry a new petrol engine, since the 1.4L petrol feels a bit insufficient.
The Grand Commander gets a 2.0 Litre Turbo petrol engine, that puts out 270 BHP and 400 Nm of peak torque. The power figures are adequate for a 7-seater SUV. This might be the petrol engine for Low-D. Of course, the mileage figures are going to be really bad.
Along with this, this SUV will be offered with a 4-wheel drive system, different driving-modes, traction control, frequency selective damping control suspension and more such off-roading features.

Just like the Compass, Jeep will heavily localize this SUV. As a result, expect a highly competitive pricing in its segment. We expect a pricing range that starts off at Rs 25 Lakhs, going up to Rs 32 Lakhs.
