Hyundai is most likely to name its upcoming new small car as the Santro. This name recieved a total of 201,568 votes in company’s recent naming campaign.
Hyundai has confirmed that it is going to launch an all-new entry-level car in India on the 23rd of October 2018.
However, the company is yet to reveal the name of this vehicle which so far is being referred to as the ‘AH2’, which is its codename.
That said, there have been a number of speculations stating that the South Korean automaker is going to name this new mini hatchback as the ‘Santro’. And hence bringing back the once big hit moniker back to the company’s portfolio.
But are these speculations true? Do they really have any chance of becoming true?
We guess they do!
Recently, Hyundai conducted a large-scale online naming campaign called the ‘Namkaran’, asking the Indian population to vote for the name of their new small car.
The automaker has recently shared the details of the results of this campaign.
And guess what?
The name ‘Santro’ recieved the maximum number of votes; accounting to a total of 201,568. Hence, it is most likely that the automaker decides to name its new hatchback as the Santro.

Bringing this moniker back would help the company establish the new vehicle and also form an emotional connect with the population. In terms of aesthetics, the 2018 Santro is going to get the automaker’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language.

The new Santro is going to get only a petrol variant in its line-up. This will be the same 1.20-litre, 3-cylinder unit powering the current spec Eon. However, in addition to a manual gearbox, the car is also going to come with an AMT transmission option.
