Tata Motors is working on bringing the assembly of its luxury sedan Jaguar XF and premium SUV Range Rover Evoque to India by the mid of 2013. This move is inspired by a strong growth of luxury car sales segment in India. The Tata owned Jaguar and Land Rover will help strengthen an alternate segment of luxury cars which is mainly dominated in India by BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi. With the local assembly of the Jaguar XF and Range Rover Evoque, unlike the present scenario of CBU import, the cars will attract less duties and taxes under the CKD structure, this will help Tata motors to place these cars more competitively against its competing brands in the luxury car segment in India.
Indian automobile market is still has a lot of potential in the luxury segment in the years to come as the disposable income of Indian buyers is gradually getting better and the luxury car sales are not as high as more developed countries of the west, so the potential of sales is there.
It will be interesting to see Indian auto market getting more and more competitive, which will be a beneficial move for the buyers as they will have more choices and brands competing for the top spot and offering better deals and features.
