Hyundai Carlino compact SUV is scheduled to launch in India during the second half of 2019. Latest spy shots reveal a Hyundai Creta inspired exterior silhouette.
The Hyundai Carlino compact SUV, the under 4-meter utility vehicle set to launch in India next year has been caught testing in India for the first time. This sub-compact SUV from Hyundai is going to compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and the Honda WR-V. The spy shots showcase a highly camouflaged test mule of this vehicle. However, we can still make out that the exterior design details of this vehicle take a lot of their design inspiration from its bigger sibling Creta.
As can be seen in the images quite clearly, the new sub-compact SUV from Hyundai has a front end which is clearly a direct lift from the Carlino concept that we saw at the 2016 Auto Expo. Up-front, the utility vehicle comes with the automaker’s large cascading grille design which is flanked at the edges by sleek headlamps. Sitting below it are large housing for the fog-lamps or which could either be the main headlamp units.

The side profile of the Hyundai Carlino, as mentioned before, resembles quite a lot to the Creta. This section of the vehicle seems to adorn a plain design with sharp counters for that classic SUV stance. It comes with alloy wheels which sort of have the same design as seen on the mid-cycle facelift of the Creta launched recently. From what can be seen through the camouflage, the rear section of this SUV is once again heavily inspired by the Carlino concept. It gets, what looks like, tail-lamps from the Grand i10 hatchback.

The cabin of this Hyundai Carlino is not visible in these spy images. However, we can assume that it might get an all-new design which is independent of any other Hyundai model. Our expectations are that Hyundai is going to pitch this vehicle to mainly a younger audience and hence is going to offer a contemporary and stylish interior design layout. As with all the other Hyundai vehicles, expect the material quality to be top-notch. And also expect the car to come loaded with features generously.

The Hyundai Carlino will share its underpinnings with the company’s premium hatchback i20. And hence, it is likely to share the same engine specifications as well. This new sub-compact SUV will go on sale in India with both petrol as well as diesel derivatives. The former is going to get a BS-VI complaint 1.0-litre turbocharged engine. While the latter is going to come with a 1.4-litre U2 CRDi unit. As standard, the SUV will retail with a 5-speed manual transmission. However, various media reports state that Hyundai might just introduce an AMT transmission with the Carlino in India. Prices will fall in the range of INR 7.5 lakh and INR 10 Lakh.
