In the latest reports, many of the automobile brands have said that they will launch new Micro SUVs under Rs 6 Lakhs, due to increasing competition. These brands include Hyundai, Datsun, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors. Read ahead to get more details.
Crossovers and SUVs are very much trending in the Indian markets. If you see, sub-compact SUVs and compact SUVs are much in demand right now. Afte the first hatchback came, people started buying it because they were lower priced and easy to drive. SUVs back at that time were still considered as a means of transporting goods or people. However, with time, people saw SUVs to be as comfortable as sedans. Moreover, it could fit more than 4-5 people, which was an instant catch. Over the time, after their first car as a hatchback, a lot of people switch to compact SUVs. Now, the latest news suggests that many automobile brands have accepted the concept of Micro SUVs. They will sit below sub-compact SUVs like Ecosport and Brezza. Moreover, these SUVs will be mostly priced under the budget of Rs 6 Lakhs.

Brands like Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, Tata, and Datsun have started their work on the idea. Currently, the only ones in this segment include KUV 100 and Ignis. These cars offer a tall-boy stance, SUV type feeling, and great riding quality. These Micro SUVs will mostly be powered by the same engines found in their hatchback counterparts. So, the engine will be small like a 1.0 Litre or a 1.2 Litre petrol unit. Also, these micro SUVs would get AMT variants too.
“People who have been purchasing hatchbacks for years will be looking for an upgrade. India sells over one million hatchbacks every year. Almost 58% of the owners replace their car every six years (and for them) the micro or small SUV becomes a good alternative,” Mayank Pareek, president of the passenger vehicle division at Tata Motors said to ET Auto.

Upcoming Micro SUVs Under 6 Lakh In India- Maruti Suzuki Y1k
Maruti Suzuki is going to launch a crossover Micro SUV in mid-2019. Earlier at the Auto Expo, it was showcased in the concept for as the Future Concept S. Other reports suggest that it might be relaunched as Maruti Suzuki Zen. It is mostly going to look like KUV with a tall stance and an SUV type body but with a compact hatchback body like the Ignis. It will be placed above the Alto at a price range similar to the WagonR. For engine duties, we can expect a 1.0 Litre K-series petrol engine.
Upcoming Micro SUVs Under 6 Lakh In India- Hyundai Micro SUV
Hyundai currently is busy with the development of its sub-compact SUV. It rumoured to be named as ‘Carlino’ and will take on Ford Ecosport and Brezza. After that, Hyundai will develop its new Micro SUV. It will be priced around 5 Lakhs to Rs 8 Lakhs and be will be priced under the Elite i20. It would carry the features and engine of the Grand i10. This SUV is expected to launch in India by 2020-21.

Upcoming Micro SUVs Under 6 Lakh In India- Datsun GO Cross
Datsun GO Cross is also expected to launch in India by 2020. It will basically be an extended version of the Datsun GO and will get the same features and engine specs, as found in the normal GO hatchback. It will get all the latest features such as LED DRLs, touch-screen infotainment system and more. So, we expect this to be priced around Rs 4.5 Lakhs to Rs 7.5 Lakhs, easily.

Upcoming Micro SUVs Under 6 Lakh In India- Tata Hornbill
Tata has been increasing its share in the Indian automobile market lately. With the Nexon, Tiago, and Hexa, it really does have a good play. Now, the latest news says that Tata Hornbill or Tata X445 will launch in India by 2020. The Hornbill will basically be a mini-Nexon and will copy several design elements from it. Recently, the plan to launch Hornbill was preponed by 2 years, which was earlier scheduled for later. This will sit just below the Nexon and is expected to be priced around Rs 5 Lakhs up to Rs 8 Lakhs.
