Bajaj Auto has confirmed that it will launch the Swedish bike brand, Husqvarna in India. They will be launched by the side of KTM and will take underpinnings from the Duke 390. Two bikes from the brand are expected to launch in FY 2019.
Bajaj Auto has KTM, the Austrian bike makers, under its wing. Also, KTM has been doing good in India with its slick track-ready machines. Yet again, Bajaj has taken another Swedish bike maker, Husqvarna Motorcycles under its wing. This brand will launch its two bikes, Svartpilen 401 and the Vitpilen 401. While the former one looks similar to the Scrambler, the latter one looks similar to a street cafe racer. These bikes will be built alongside KTM as both of them share their underpinnings with the Duke 390. Overall, Bajaj has a good share of the market in each segment with the Pulsar, Avenger and Dominar series and the KTM bikes. This one will be placed above KTM and will go on to compete with the newly launched, BMW G 310R.

The Husqvarna bikes will sport a 373cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine, the one found in Duke 390. This engine outputs 40 BHP of power and 37 Nm of torque. It uses a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch. The mileage of the bike will be around 25 KMPL. They also use KTM’s Trellis chassis frame. However, these bikes are designed differently and have completely different looks.
Husqvarna is a popular Swedish brand, which was formed in 1903. In the 1960s and 70s, it has won many rallies and was once Sweden’s largest motorcycle manufacturer. In the 60s, the two-stroke Husqvarna bikes were dominating the rallies so well that the British four-stroke would find it tough to keep up with the pace. Recently, in 2013, KTM re-purchased the brand from BMW and is now ready to come to India.

Both the bikes are expected to be priced around Rs 3 Lakhs to Rs 4 Lakhs easily. They will be priced over the KTM bikes to take on the affordable bikes from premium brands. Most likely, it will compete with the Ninja 300 and the BMW G 310 R. Bajaj is always known to price its products competitively and we can expect the same from these bikes.
Expect the bike to be launch by the end of 2019. Currently, the KTM 390 Adventure is confirmed for an early-2019 launch. A lot of premium bikes now start at around Rs 3 Lakhs, because a price above that would not attract many buyers in India.
