Despite getting an agreement signed on October 1st between Maruti Suzuki and labor union at the Manesar plant, the workers have initiated the strike again which enters the seventh day today on 13th of October 2011. The disturbance prevailed over the past month and lately it was resumed during the first week of October, bringing trouble once again for Maruti Suzuki.
At this point in time the situation has become worse, eventually compelling the major to halt the production of some of the best selling cars like Maruti Alto K10, 2011 Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift Dzire and Maruti SX4.
The labor unrest has also affected one of its facilities responsible for producing crucial components for its product line-up and the supply of the components have been stopped. Until the supply of these components resume, the company will only produce models such as Maruti Omni, Maruti Eeco and Maruti Gypsy.
Haryana Labor Department has already declared the strike as illegal and unethical as per the recently signed agreement. The government has even asked to withdraw the strike but despite that the same is still continued by the workers.
The Gurgaon facility produces some of the important models and the ongoing strike is badly affecting the production targets. As being reported, on Wednesday the plant could only produce 600 units as against the targeted 2800 units. The labors are not ready to negotiate but we hope they do come back to their senses soon.
