Tata Nano Electric or the Jayem Neo will soon make it to the Indian roads. Roll-out of the first batch of 400 units is going to be done in Hyderabad under cab aggregator Ola.
Soon we might see electric Tata Nanos plying on Indian roads as Ola Cabs. Jayem, a Coimbatore based automobile company is currently developing an electric version of the Tata Nano. However, the ‘green Nano’ will be renamed and rebranded as the Jayem Neo. According to recent developments, the first batch of the 400 units of this vehicle will add to Ola’s fleet in Hyderabad. And will make it to other Indian cities soon. Confirming this recently some spy shots of this vehicle surfaced on the internet.

The images reveal that the Jayem Neo does not carry Tata badging. However, they also reveal that this electric version neither has any aesthetic change from the standard Nano design. Same can be said about the interiors of the car as well. In the initial stage, the electric Nano will only be available for fleets and not private use, just like the Tigor and Tiago EVs.

Tata Motors and Jayen automotive are working under a joint venture. According to this, the homegrown automaker is going to supply Nano body-shells to Jayem. These body shells do not contain the petrol engine and transmission assembly. Jayem will then add a 48-Volt power system. The output of this unit is going to be 17 KW which is equivalent to 23 BHP. Current speculations state that this vehicle will offer a range of 200 km on a single charge. The electric powertrain is supplied by Electra EV. This is the same establishment which also provides electric powertrains for the Tata Tigor and Tiago EVs.

The Tata Nano electric or the Jayen Neo is not going to be a bare-bones vehicle. It is likely to feature basic creature comforts. For instance, it will have an electric power steering, air-conditioning, central locking, front power-windows among the others. Though still not confirmed, we are expecting the prices of the Nano electric to be somewhere INR 5 lakh.

The partnership between Tata Motors and Jayem is not only limited to electric cars. The latter is also going to make performance versions of select Tata cars as well. The first of these is the Tiago and Tigor JTP. We saw the first glimpse of these vehicles at the 2018 Auto Expo. Testing of the Tiago JTP is already underway. and we are expecting a launch around the festive season this year.
