Mahindra S201 Launch Likely By Festive Season- All You Need To Know

Check out the expected price, launch date, pics, and specs of the upcoming Mahindra S201 compact SUV. It is expected to launch likely by this festive season. Lately, it has been spied a couple of times and once with the Marazzo. We expect it to be priced around Rs 7 Lakhs to Rs 10 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Read ahead to get more details. 

The Mahindra S201 spottings have increased, indicating a near launch date. Most of the reports say that it will launch in near Diwali 2018. It will be a sub-compact SUV rivaling Vitara Brezza, Nexon, and EcoSport. It is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli, which is sold in some Asian countries. Features of the compact SUV include 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, leather seats, engine push button stop-start, key-less entry, cruise control and an electric sunroof. It will use a 1.2 Litre G80 Turbo petrol engine along with a 1.5 Litre Diesel engine. For transmission, we expect a 5-speed Manual along with an AMT variant. Mahindra S201 Compact SUV – Expected Launch

The compact SUV is expected to launch during the festive season 2018. It will replace the average play Mahindra Nuvosport. There are also chances that this car might be renamed as XUV300. It is speculated that Mahindra S201 compact SUV will come with a 5-seater and 7-seater option. Also, various reports say that the 5-seater will launch first around festive season 2018.

Mahindra S201 Compact SUV – Price

According to the expected specs and features, the compact SUV will start from around Rs 7 Lakh for the base variant to Rs 11 Lakh for the top variant. The price range is ideal while keeping the current competitors and their prices in mind.

Mahindra S201 Compact SUV – Design

In the front, it gets the grille from the 2018 XUV 500 and the front bumper and bonnet look like Ssanyong Tivoli. The test drive car given to the Team-BHP member had front parking sensors. It gets LED DRLs in a two-piece unit extended from the headlamp till the front bumper along with projector headlamps. On the side, it gets new 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels along with pronounced wheel arches in the front. In the rear, it gets newly design LED tail lamps which do not match any of the Mahindra’s car. On the top, there is a roof spoiler with integrated brake lights and rear windshield wipers. The car looks fresh in design and can be easily classified as a sub-4 metre compact SUV.

Mahindra S201 Compact SUV – Interiors

The SUV gets much space inside its cabin. It gets premium leather seats with chrome inputs on the centre console. The interiors are made up of hard plastics, but the quality is much good. There is enough storage available to store water bottles and other knick-knacks in all the doors. However, the IRVM is an ECM unit and visibility is limited due to the small rear glass and thick C pillars. It comes with a twin-pod instrument cluster with a MID in the middle. It gets the usual steering mounted controls, which is said to be quite premium.

Mahindra S201 Compact SUV – Engine

It is expected that the new Mahindra S201 compact SUV will come with the existing 1.2-litre G80 turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. Currently, Mahindra is developing the new 1.6-litre diesel engine, and the new 1.5-litre petrol motor, which might be seen in this model. Transmission duties are likely to be handled by a 5-speed manual and possibly an AMT option in the top-end variant. Given the speculated engine specs, it will produce around 90 BHP power and around 160 Nm of torque in the 1.2 Litre variant. In the 1.5 Litre variant, it will produce around 113 BHP power and 240 Nm of torque. It is expected to give a mileage figure of around 12 KMPL on petrol and 19 KMPL on diesel. Due to rising competition, Mahindra S201 might get a 6-speed transmission for both automatic and manual gearboxes.

Mahindra S201’s 5-seater variant will be competing with Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport, and Vitara Brezza. Owing to the competition, it will likely cost in comparison to them. The Nexon, Vitara Brezza and Ecosport have recently got their updates with a whole new list of features. On the other hand, the 7-seater variant will take on Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta. The 7-seater variant will fall in the same price segment of Duster and Creta.
