The Mahindra S201 is derived out of the Ssangyong Tivoli. It is likely to have two different versions. One will be a sub-compact SUV and the other a compact one. Will get both petrol and diesel derivatives.
As you must be aware Mahindra is currently working on an all-new sub-compact SUV for the Indian market. This vehicle is based on the SsangYong Tivoli and will have Mahindra styling. Mahindra has a slew of new models, all utility vehicles, lined-up for their Indian debut. It is likely that this new sub-compact SUV, codenamed the S201, will launch in India during the festive season this year. It will consequently compete with the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport. We expect the production version of the Mahindra S201 to have premium characteristics.
According to several media reports, the Mahindra S201 is going to have two variants. One is going to be a sub-compact SUV. This will compete with the Vitara Brezza. While the other is a slightly longer derivative. And will consequently compete in a segment above, with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.

Mahindra says that the similarities between the S201 and the Tivoli will end at both sharing the same platform. Furthermore, the new sub-compact SUV from the automaker is going to have classic Mahindra styling. However, the vehicle is developed with joint inputs from Mahindra, SsangYong and Pininfarina.

The S201 is going to have both petrol and diesel derivatives. The automaker is currently working in collaboration with SsangYong to develop a new set of engines. Currently, the exact details regarding the engine specifications of the Mahindra S201 are not with us. However, we expect the petrol derivative of this sub-compact SUV to get a 1.5-litre engine. While the diesel derivative could get a 1.6-litre oil-burner. Mahindra is likely to introduce both manual as well as automatic transmission options.

The S201 will score high in terms of onboard features. It is likely to come with creature comforts like automatic climate control, height adjustable driver’s seat, auto-dimming IRVM to name a few. Apart from this, the SUV is also going to come with a touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted audio controls and features alike. In addition to this, the S201 is going to come with dual-airbags and ABS with EBD as standard across the range.

Since the S201 is going to compete in the sub-compact SUV segment in India. Consequently, we expect the base variant of the SUV to cost around the mark of INR 7 lakh. While the top of the line version could go for INR 9.5 Lakh.
Mahindra also has a couple of other products lined-up for the Indian market. In April, the automaker is going to launch the facelift version of the XUV500. Before the S201, sometime during the middle of 2018, it is likely to debut the U321 MPV. This vehicle will compete with the likes of Tata Hexa and the Toyota Innova Crysta. Furthermore, the automaker is going to launch the Rexton based full-sized SUV. This will take up the place as the flagship model from Mahindra.
