Codenamed AH2, commonly known as the ‘family hatchback’ the 2018 Hyundai Santro was expected to launch around the festive season of Diwali. According to new reports on the web, the upcoming hatchback might launch in August.
The Hyundai Santro has been on sale for so long, it has outlived most of the cars to ever enter the Indian market. The Maruti’s answer to Santro was the Alto800 which, for obvious reasons, failed to impress. One way to make a segment look impressive and attractive, you make the lower segment dull and plain ugly. The upcoming 2018 Hyundai Santro promises to carry the Santro legacy ahead offering more space, more tech on board, more safety and more power. Want to know more about the new Santro, read along.

2018 Hyundai Santro – Price in India
Minimum Price | Rs 4 Lakh |
Maximum Price | Rs 5 Lakh |
2017 Hyundai Santro Sportz | INR 4.58 Lakhs |
2017 Hyundai Santro Asta | INR 4.91 Lakhs |
We expect the upcoming 2018 Hyundai Santro to be priced a little higher than the original model. While the upcoming hatchback will resemble nothing with the old model, it will only use the nameplate as its the most popular brand Hyundai holds in the nation. The new Santro range will start around INR 3.5 lakh and top-end models featuring automatic transmission will cost around INR 5.75 lakh.
2018 Hyundai Santro – Engine Specifications
The new 2018 Hyundai Santro is expected to be powered by a less than a 1000cc engine. The government revised the norms related to the cars bearing engines over 1000cc and Hyundai wants to keep its engine on the Santro well below that. The engine will be a three-cylinder engine. Since turbocharging the engine requires more investment, we expect the engine to be a normally aspirated unit so as to keep the price in check. The initial batch of the engines have already been manufactured at the Hyundai’s plant in Tamil Nadu and are undergoing testing all-around the country. The upcoming 2018 Hyundai Santro will be the first car from Hyundai to feature an AMT transmission. While a Diesel engine is highly unlikely, a company fitted CNG and LPG versions are surely on the cards though.
