The Swift nameplate first made it to India back in 2005. Back then, the hatchback shook the entire car market with its sporty looks, high performance from the free-revving 1.3-litre G13 petrol engine, and an attractive price tag. The car was then replaced by the second-generation model (for India) in August 2011. The company is now all set to launch the third generation of its best seller. Here are the full details on the new car –

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has confirmed that it will launch the new Swift at the Auto Expo 2018. Bookings for the new car start today for a token amount of Rs 11,000. It’s for the first time that the latest-generation Dzire has come to us before the launch of its hatchback sibling. The latest generation Dzire made it to India in early 2017 and has been setting sales charts on fire ever since. While the new-generation car might even affect the sales of the Baleno to some extent, the company is confident that the new car will end up completely dominating the B-segment along with the Baleno.
New Maruti Swift Price in India
Minimum Price | Rs. 5.10 Lakh |
Maximum Price | Rs. 8.20 Lakh |
Prices of the new Swift will be definitely higher than those of the current car. However, we are pretty sure that the new car will be able to justify the price premium through a fresher design, more features, and a more involving drive. Also, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has been known to price its cars ultra-competitively. Expect a similar pricing strategy for even the new Swift. We believe prices of the new car will start at Rs 5.10 lakh and go all the way to Rs 8.20 lakh for the top-end model. Our estimates are based on the prices of the new Dzire. Currently, the Maruti Dzire price range starts at Rs 5.50 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 8.50 lakh.
In this price range, the new Swift, just like the current car, will find itself rivalling a slew of cars. Its rivals will range from the likes of Hyundai Grand i10 to micro-SUVs like the Mahindra KUV100 and its own cousin, the Maruti Ignis.

City | 15-16 KMPL | 18-19 KMPL |
Highway | 20 KMPL | 23-24 KMPL |
The current set of engines will be carried over to the 2018 model. This means that the petrol variant of the new Swift will be powered by the same 1.2-litre K-series four-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine that powers the current car. The Diesel variant will get the same Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS four-cylinder Turbo motor. Of course, Maruti will make it a point to re-tune the engines and extract more fuel efficiency. The new Swift 2018 will be slightly more frugal than the current car. This will be because of the much lower kerb weight of the car. A lower weight will definitely translate into better performance and higher fuel mileage.
