In this post, however, we highlight the 10 things about the new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift that you really need to know.

#1 Looks Sportier, More Matured
The new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback looks a lot fresher and more modern. That said, its design is more revolutionary than evolutionary, which isn’t really a bad thing. The new car is not only more attractive than the current model but is also larger in dimensions. The car also looks more planted due to the increase in width and a slight decrease in overall length.
The front-end is characterised by a much wider grille that makes the car’s nose look a lot sportier. The headlights look a lot more premium and carry LED fixtures. The most eye-catching detail of the side profile is the floating-roof effect created by blacked-out pillars. The rear-end also looks a lot more premium than the posterior of the current car. First of all, it is when you look at the car’s rear-end that the increased width gets really apparent. Secondly, the new taillights, which are slightly square-ish in profile, lend a slightly premium touch go the cabin.

#2 Better Looking Cabin with More Space
Even the interior gets a sporty new design and several new features. Thanks to the larger dimensions, the new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift will offer sufficient space for five occupants. The rear seat can easily accommodate three people now. The boot-space has gone up, too, and so has the quality of materials. The dashboard is characterised by round aircon vents in the centre and rectangular once at the terminal ends. The new generation of Maruti’s popular hatchback comes with a flat-bottom steering wheel that further enhances the sporty appeal. Overall, the cabin is finished draped in black and faux metal trim goes well with the dark colour theme. Oh, and yes, you also get a slightly larger boot.
#3 Tried and Tested Engines
Specifications aren’t drastically different from those of the outgoing car as both the earlier engines have been carried over to the new 2018 Swift. That said, both the engines have been recalibrated for the new hatchback. Both the engines continue to come mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard. There’s also an AMT for both the engine options on select trims. The Diesel engine continues to output a maximum power of 74 BHP along with a peak torque of 190 Nm. On the other hand, the Petrol engine outputs 82 BHP and 113 Nm. Both these motors have been on duty in several other Maruti cars and offer a high reliability and refinement.
#4 AMT for Both Engine Options
It’s for the first time in the history of the Swift that both its engine options get an AMT. With this, buyers of the new-generation hatchback can enjoy the convenience of an automatic transmission without compromising on the fuel efficiency. Also, an AMT is fairly easier to maintain than a full-blown auto ‘box.
#5 Higher Mileage
The new Swift is lighter than the car it replaces and even comes with re-tuned motors. No surprise then, that, the new car ends up offering a higher mileage. The Diesel motor offers an ARAI-rated fuel mileage of, hold your breath, 28.4 KMPL. The petrol engine, on the other hand, offers an ARAI-rated fuel mileage of 22 KMPL. Even in real-world conditions, we reckon that this car can return upto 20 KMPL with the petrol engine and around 25 KMPL with the oil burner. Thanks to a higher fuel efficiency, the Swift just got cheaper to run. We are pretty sure this is one factor that will work in favour of the new car to a great extent.
#6 More Features
The new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift will go on sale in four trim levels – LXi/LDi, VXi/VDi, ZXi/ZDi, ZXi+/ZDi+. The new car comes with many new features that make it a more premium offering than before. The top-end model of the new Swift comes with projector headlights with DRLs, 15-inch wheels, ISOFIX with child-seat mounts, Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system, Push Start-Stop button, Auto Headlights, and Remote Keyless Entry. The addition of several new features is sure to catch the attention of many new car buyers in this segment. Out of the above features, our favourite has to be the touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system. This is the same unit that is also found on costlier cars like the Ciaz. For the new generation of Swift, it will offer both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity options.
#7 Sporty Handling and Stability
We drove the new Swift on some winding roads and had a lot of fun pushing this car in corners. The new car is definitely more sure-footed and a lot more fun when apex-hunting. The flat-bottom steering wheel feels good to hold and isn’t too light or vague. There’s only a hint of body roll when pushing this car too hard on a bend but overall, the Swift is definitely a sportier handler than most other cars of its size. Also, thanks to a substantial increase in the track and also due to a more modern platform, the new Swift feels much more planted at high speeds than its predecessor.
#8 Higher Safety
The new Swift is not only more fun but also safer than the car it is about to replace. The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift gets safety features like ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, and Front Dual Airbags as standard fitments across all trims. Furthermore, the high-end trims also get reverse park assist and a security alarm. Moreover, the new car also offers higher crash safety. The new HEARTECT platform gets a higher percentage of high tensile steel for its construction, which in turn makes it more robust.
#9 6 Vibrant Colours
The new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift is available in as many as 6 vibrant colours-
- Midnight Blue
- Fire Red
- Lucent Orange
- Arctic White
- Silky Silver
- Magma Grey
#10 Wide Sales and Service Network
It was earlier speculated that the new Swift will be sold through the Nexa dealerships. However, the new car will continue to sell through the regular Maruti Suzuki dealerships. That said, the company has been in the process of upgrading all its dealerships to offer a better user experience. Maruti Suzuki enjoys the widest sales and service network among all the car companies in India. Hence, customers of the new Swift are sure to benefit from the company’s wide sales network and high service support. Also, Maruti cars are known to have low maintenance costs and the new Swift should be no different in this regard.
