Powering the new 2018 Hyundai Santro will be a new low-displacement petrol engine whose production has already commenced at the company’s production facility in Tamil Nadu. There are good chances that the new Santro would become the first-ever Hyundai India car to offer an AMT. It may be noted here that Young Kee Koo, CEO, Hyundai India, has already announced that the company will launch AMT models in 2018. Previous sightings have revealed that the car will get a dashboard-mounted touchscreen infotainment unit that is likely to offer smartphone compatibility.

Mr. Y. K. Koo, MD and CEO at Hyundai Motor India Ltd, has confirmed that the launch of their new small car, which has been internally codenamed as the AH2, will take place in the second half of 2018. While the company is yet to disclose the market name of the ‘AH2’, reports abound that the employees at the company’s Tamil Nadu manufacturing facility are already calling the AH2 the “new Santro”. Expect the new 2018 Hyundai Santro to launch during the festive period of 2018.

We expect the new Santro to be priced really close to the Maruti WagonR. Our guess is that the new 2018 Hyundai Santro prices could start at Rs 4.00 lakh. The top-end variant could cost around Rs 5 lakh. While Hyundai’s plan to bring back the Santro remains unconfirmed at the moment, bringing the popular nameplate back to life could prove to be really beneficial. Currently, the Eon is nowhere close to its competitors in terms of sales numbers. An all-new product with a strong brand recognition could end up boosting sales of the company in the entry-level segment.

These engines will be used to carry out real-world testing of the prototypes of the upcoming budget hatchback. The upcoming new model Santro will become the first Hyundai car in India to offer AMT. A Diesel engine option looks highly unlikely to make it to this car.
