New 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport India Launch in the Offing, Will host a power output of 148 BHP
Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the all-new 2018 Suzuki Swift early next year. The new Swift will feature slightly updated powertrains from the current generation favoring better efficiency. The company is planning to launch the hot-hatch version of the Swift, namely Swift Sport, in India late next year. Upon launch, the 2018 Suzuki Swift Sport will compete with the likes of Volkswagen Polo GT, Fiat Punto Abarth and it’s own sibling i.e. the Baleno RS.
2018 Suzuki Swift Sport Specifications
Powering the 2018 Swift Sport will be the latest iteration of the 1.4-litre K14-C engine that churns out 148 bhp of power @ 5,500 rpm and 245 Nm of peak torque between 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. In the international market, the consumers get the option of choosing between either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Considering the segment and pricing for the upcoming hot-hatch, the company might favour the latter. The 6-speed manual will only be available if the company deems a demand for it.
2018 Swift Sport Design
Apart from the drivetrain update, the 2018 Swift Sport will feature visual changes both on the outside as well as inside. The exterior changes include a bigger air intake at the front followed by a bigger radiator. The front bumper gets a black lip spoiler with black side skirts following the length of the car. The rear bumper will host a diffuser with integrated brake light and a roof spoiler for that additional downforce.
2018 Suzuki Swift Sport Interior
The interior gets quite a boost and the sporty theme continues on the inside, similar to the exterior. The seats feature more lumbar support and different level of stiffness to cope with the sporty nature of the hot hatch. The gear lever and steering wheel comes covered in plush leather and offers great feel and additional grip. The dashboard misses on soft-touch plastic but the additional sporty elements like the red line running across the dashboard following the doors is a nice touch.
2018 Swift Sport Features
Suzuki does it right to its customers when it adds the “Sport” badge to its offerings. The entire focus is to make the car sportier and nothing else. The equipment on board will include a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, identical to that of the Baleno. The same display doubles up as the reversing camera. Maruti Suzuki holds a trick up their sleeve and we expect them to carry forward the feature displaying the current power output of the engine. Although this makes little sense in real-life usage, it definitely adds to the sporty appeal of the hot hatch.
2018 Swift Sport Launch and Price
The upcoming 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport is expected to be launched by Diwali 2018. We expect the company to price it competitively but since the Swift Sport holds several add-ons over the regular Swift, one can expect a price tag of about INR 12 lakh.
We have long been ogling at the Swift sport’s generations present at the Auto Expo since 2010 but are finally expecting the company to launch it in India. We are overjoyed to report that the launch of the 2018 Swift Sport will bring in a new competitor to the market. The upcoming hot hatch shares its platform with the current Baleno and weighs 970 kg!
