Remember we discussed the Government’s plans to have only EVs running on public roads by 2030 recently? Well, in what could be a huge push to India’s attempt at embracing electric cars, Mahindra and Mahindra has been working on a handful of new EVs that will launch in near future. One of the upcoming electric vehicles in India is the Mahindra KUV100 Electric Car. While the company hasn’t been very vocal about its plans to launch this EV, a handful of spy images prove that the manufacturer has been busy testing prototypes on public roads.

Speculations abound that the Mahindra KUV100 electric car launch will take place in the last quarter of next year. Prior to its introduction in the market, the company might even decide to showcase a pre-production prototype at the Auto Expo 2018. Of course, the upcoming EV will cost higher than its fossil fuel-sipping siblings. However, the price list will come out only at the time of the launch. Even the details of the powertrain are not known at the moment. However, we won’t be too surprised to see the powerplant of the e-Verito making it to the KUV100 EV.

Also, Mahindra plans to come up with an entire range of next-generation electric motors with power output ranging from 41 hp to 204 hp. Powering these engines will be higher capacity batteries that will even boost the range of the EVs. Currently, the popular Indian UV maker has the e2O and the e-Verito in its electric car portfolio. However, the duo hasn’t really managed to set sales charts on fire, much of which can be attributed to rather steep price tags. All this, however, could change in near future with implementation of higher localization and relaxed tax structures.
Mahindra KUV100 Electric Car Launch Date
While the company hasn’t been too vocal about its plans of launching the EV, it’s pretty much for sure that the popular UV-maker has been working overtime on its upcoming electric car. We are expecting to see a pre-production prototype of the electric KUV100 at the Auto Expo 2018 in February next year. Speculations abound that the company will launch the EV in the last quarter of next year.
Mahindra KUV100 Electric Car Price in India
Well, it’s a bit too early to speculate on the price tag. However, there are good chances that the electric KUV100 will cost more than the Petrol and the Diesel models. Much of this will be because of the high cost of electric hardware, particularly of the batteries. The company is hoping to bring the costs significantly lower in near future thru higher localization. Also, the Government could relax tax structures in a bid to promote the shift to electric vehicles.

Mahindra KUV100 Electric Car Exterior and Interior
The upcoming Mahindra KUV100 electric car will look almost the same as the variants running on fossil fuels. Other than this, the EV won’t look any different from the regular variants. The KUV100 recently received a comprehensive facelift and is now on sale as the KUV100 NXT. The NXT gets a revised front facade that boasts new headlamps, a new grille, and an updated bumper that carries new foglamps. The grille is new and looks more stylish. Even the interior will be almost exactly like that of the regular KUV100 NXT. Of course, there won’t be a conventional gear lever. However, much of the interior will remain the same. The centre-console will get a touchscreen infotainment unit.
