Yamaha R15 V3.0 India Launch Soon But With Some Glaring Omissions!

The Yamaha YZF R15 has garnered enough success since its India launch in 2008. The R15 offers superbike-like looks, a powerful 150cc engine and the high refinement levels that Yamaha is known for. The YZF R15 received a facelift in 2011. The R15 Version 2.0 was surrounded by a lot of excitement due to its even sharper looks. Yamaha came up with the R15 version 3 in January this year. In India, the Yamaha R15 V3.0 launch will likely take place in the first-half of 2018. The new R15 looks better and has more power. The India-spec R15 V3.0 looks much like the international model. It gets new design body panels along with LED headlamps. The bike also gets a digital speedo console that has a blue backlight. The new motorcycle will also get new colour options. However, the new version of the R15 for India misses out on the upside down front forks.

Yamaha R15 V3.0 India Launch Date

The new 2017 Yamaha R15 V3.0 India launch date could fall in April 2018. Prior to its market launch, the motorcycle will make its India debut at the Auto Expo 2018. We await official confirmation of the launch date from the manufacturer. The bike was officially unveiled in Indonesia earlier this year.

Yamaha R15 V3.0 Price in India

The new 2017 Yamaha R15 V3.0 could cost around Rs. 1.30 Lakhs. The bike should be priced in the Rs. 1.30-1.40 Lakhs range (ex-showroom). Currently, the R15 V2.0 model has a sticker price of roughly Rs. 1.20 lakhs. However, new bits like LED headlamps and USD Forks should bump up the price.

Missing Features on the Yamaha R15 V3.0 India spec model

The India-spec R15 V3.0 seems to be based on the V2.0 and isn’t the new-generation that’s on sale abroad. While this will ensure that prices stay competitive, expect the new model to be largely like the V2.0. The India-spec R15 V3.0 gets the same front forks that the V2.0 comes with. Yes, there are no USDs. Also, the motorcycle doesn’t get an ABS. It doesn’t get the sticky Pirellis. Also, the sportier fender of the V3.0 doesn’t make it to the model for our country. Even the footpegs seem to be the same. Also, going by the nature of omissions, it doesn’t look like even the slipper clutch would be offered on this motorcycle. It’s like India will get a facelift of V2.0 and not an all-new model that’s sold abroad.

Yamaha R15 V3.0 India Specifications

Even the engine is expected to be the same. The ‘real’ R15 V3.0 gets an all-new 155.1cc single cylinder, liquid cooled, fuel injected engine with Variable Valve Actuation. This engine outputs a maximum power of 19.04 BHP at 10,000 RPM. Peak torque is rated at 14.7 Nm at 8,500 RPM. The engine boasts bits like forged pistons and DiASil (Diecast Aluminium Silicon) cylinder. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. In all chances, the India-spec model will get the same 149cc engine that powers the V2.0. This single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke engine boasts SOHC technology and outputs a maximum power of 17 PS along with a peak torque of 15 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

New Yamaha R15 Version 3.0 India Design

The new Yamaha R15 V3.0 looks sportier than V2.0. Thanks to many new body panels, the Version 3.0 looks bigger. Also, new colour options and sporty decals should make the bike more attractive. The ‘pièce de résistance’ are new LED headlamps. Once aboard, you’ll be quick to appreciate the new digital speedo console. Also, the bike could have a more comfortable seating position for both the rider and the pillion. It’s worth a mention that the V2.0 has faced a lot of flak for an uncomfortable pillion seat. Some design inspiration could also come from the YZF R125 and YZF R6.
