2018 Volkswagen Virtus is the Vento Replacement You’ve Been Waiting For
Volkswagen, the German car giant, has finally taken wraps off the Virtus sedan. Set to replace the Vento in many car markets like that of India, the 2018 Volkswagen Virtus is based on the MQB-based Polo. The new model will make its world debut at the Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Underpinning the Virtus is the same MQB A0 platform that underpins several other cars in the VW lineup. The Virtus looks a lot like the new Polo, especially in till the B-pillar. Akin to the Vento, the boot of the Virtus has been integrated rather neatly into what is basically a hatchback design. This gives the car a really well-proportioned look. The Volkswagen Virtus has a wheelbase of 2.65-metre and is 4.84-metre long. In comparison with the Vento, the new sedan is 450 mm longer. The new sedan offers a boot space of 521-litres.
The dashboard comes from the Polo. it gets VW’s Active Info digital display, which is basically a 10.25-inch screen to replace the conventional dials. The centre-console is flanked by an 8-inch touchscreen unit for the infotainment system. As is the norm, the unit supports MirroLink, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
The Virtus will come with a host of engines. The 200 TSI is basically a 1.0 L TSI turbocharged petrol engine that outputs a maximum power of 128 hp when using ethanol and 115 hp when using petrol. The engine outputs a maximum torque of 200 Nm. Other than this, the sedan will also offer a 1.6 L petrol engine with maximum power of 117 hp along with a peak torque of 162 Nm. While the 200 TSI motor comes mated to a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, the 1.6 L engine gets a 5-speed manual gearbox. For India, the sedan will likely offer a 1.5 L turbocharged Diesel engine with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Virtus for India won’t have an MQB platform. It will instead use a modified version of the current platform to keep costs under check. It’s too early to expect an official launch date, but a mid-2019 launch is a fair possibility.
