We recently reported in detail about the announcement of a Joint Venture between Kinetic Engineering, of the Kinetic Honda and Luna fame, and Norton Motorcycle Company, the legendary British bike maker. The two have come together to launch a handful of Norton products in the fast-evolving Indian bike market. The duo will commence operations with two models- the Commando and the Dominator. Initially, both these will come as CBUs. At the official event held in New Delhi yesterday, it was announced that the two motorcycles will launch within next three months. Here, in this post, we’ve put together all the Norton Dominator India launch details along with information on specs and prices.
Of the two Norton motorcycles headed to India, it’s the Dominator that is a more premium offering. While both the models come with the same engine and are cafe racer-styled products, the Dominator offers more features and looks decidedly racier. As you can make out from the images we have, it gets an exposed frame, a generous dose of carbon fibre and a monoshock. In comparison, the Commando offers twin gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear and less carbon fibre. Also, it doesn’t look as aggressive or sporty as the Dominator.

Norton Dominator India Launch Date
While Motoroyale, the official retailer of Norton motorcycles in India, is yet to announce the exact launch date, it has said that the two new Nortons will launch here within next three months. This means there are high chances of these two entering the bike market at the Auto Expo 2018. The initial lot of 300 Norton motorcycles will come to us via CBU-route and will be UK-spec. The company plans to start local assembly by the end of next year. At the press conference yesterday, the Indian partner said that it’s currently evaluating the percentage of localization that’s feasible. CKD assembly of Norton motorcycles in India will take place at the Kinetic Engineering plant in Pune, Maharashtra.

Norton Dominator Price in India
So far, the two companies have been tight-lipped about the prices of the upcoming motorcycles. However, it’s for sure that the Dominator will cost significantly more than the Commando. Initially, this motorcycle will come to us via CBU-route. Hence, we are looking at a rather stratospheric price tag here. The India-bound cafe racer is on sale in UK for almost 20,000 Euros (roughly Rs 15.40 lakh). Factor in the CBU import duties and we are looking at a sum of Rs 32 lakh (approx). Hence, it’s pretty much for sure that the Dominator will cater to a select few willing to upgrade from their current high-end motorcycles.

The Norton Dominator gets its juice from a 961cc twin-cylinder engine that comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. It outputs a maximum power of 80 HP @ 6,500 RPM along with a peak torque of 90 Nm @ 5,200 RPM. This motor has been developed in-house at Norton and benefits from dry sump lubrication along with crank fired electronic fuel injection and 2 way catalytic converters. The engine is Euro-4 compliant.
The Dominator comes with twin Brembo 320mm fully-floating high carbon stainless steel disc brakes at front with Brembo 4 piston “Mono bloc” radially mounted calipers. The rear gets a single Brembo 220mm disc brake with Brembo 2 piston calliper. Front Suspension comprises 43mm Black-line Ohlins USD with adjustable preload, compression & rebound damping. At the rear, the motorcycle gets Ohlins TTX 36 mono shock with adjustable ride height, preload and compression. The motorcycle gets 17-inch spoke wheels shod with 120/70 section rubber at front and 180/55 section tyre at the rear.
