Hero MotoCorp, the biggest two-wheeler manufacturer in India, has stated that it is working on a new retail network. This new retail network will be for its premium motorcycles (150cc and above). The company currently sells their hot cakes (commuter bikes like the Splendor, HF Deluxe and Glamour) from over 6000 dealerships pan India. For motorcycles in the 150cc segment and above, the company will soon have different dealerships.

Hero Moto Corp’s Chairman MD and CEO Mr Pawan Munjal at EICMA (Milan) said that “As we go forward, we will have more products in the premium segment with higher engine capacity. Clearly, a customer for 100 cc is very different from a customer for the premium bike.” He further added, “So we considered a retail strategy with which will be able to service that kind of (premium) customers.”
Elaborating further, Mr Munjal said:”Overall we plan to launch half a dozen products during the current fiscal and premium models would be part if it.” “Going forward there will be further launches in the premium as well as scooter models,” he added.
At EICMA, Hero MotoCorp revealed an adventure bike concept called the XPulse, which is really a breath of fresh air when compared to the commuter motorcycles that the company has been famous for. On questions about the new motorcycle concept, Mr. Munjal said:”X Pulse (Concept) that we showed today is in that (premium) segment. There are other products that are under development currently.” He also added:”The company would launch more models over 150 cc, including bikes and scooters, to bolster its premium product range.”
When asked about the company’s future, 2-3 years down the line he said, “Going forward clearly, because there is big growth in scooters, growth in the premium segment, where we have small market share, the difference will be there but we cannot ignore our bread and butter segment.”
After these statements and Xpulse reveal, it is clear that the company is shifting their attention to the premium segment from their primary focus of commuter bikes. In time we’ll come to know how well these efforts pay off. We’ll keep you updated on the developments regarding the upcoming Hero MotoCorp premium bikes dealership network.
