Skoda Kodiaq vs Toyota Fortuner Price
Model | Price (Ex-showroom) |
Skoda Kodiaq 7-seater SUV | Rs 34.49 lakh |
Toyota Fortuner | Rs 24.41 – 31.02 Lakh |
The latest generation of the Fortuner has a starting price of Rs 24.41 lakh. The fully loaded model costs Rs 31.02 lakh. In comparison, the Kodiaq is available in just one variant and has an ex-showroom price of Rs 34.49 lakh. As you can see, the new Czech flagship is pricier than the Japanese adversary. However, the new model will try to justify a higher price tag through its distinctly Teutonic looks, more features, and a dual clutch automatic transmission. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) recently launched the TRD Sportivo edition of its flagship SUV. The TRD Sportivo model brings in a handful of visual enhancements for the Fortuner. These make the best-seller look even more attractive.

Skoda Kodiaq vs Toyota Fortuner Specifications
Specs | Skoda Kodiaq | Toyota Fortuner |
Engine | 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel | 2.8-litre Turbo Diesel |
Maximum Power | 148 BHP | 174.5 BHP |
Peak Torque | 350 Nm | 450 Nm |
Transmission | 7-speed DSG with AWD | 6-speed MT, 6-speed AT with 4×4 and 4×2 |
The Fortuner has a clear edge here. The Japanese SUV’s 2.8-litre Turbo Diesel engine is not only bigger than the 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel engine of the Kodiaq but also offers a higher torque and power outputs. However, the Kodiaq gets a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox instead of a torque converted unit found in the Fortuner. The Kodiaq’s 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel engine outputs a maximum power of 148 BHP along with a peak torque of 350 Nm. In comparison, the Fortuner offers a maximum power of 174.5 BHP along with a peak torque of 450 Nm. While the Fortuner also offers an option of a manual transmission, the Kodiaq is available with a 7-speed DSG automatic only.
Skoda Kodiaq vs Toyota Fortuner Mileage
Skoda Kodiaq | Toyota Fortuner Diesel | |
City | 12 KMPL | 11 KMPL |
Highway | 15.5 KMPL | 14 KMPL |
Thanks to a smaller and a less powerful engine, the Kodiaq ends up offering a higher mileage than the Fortuner. While the Fortuner Diesel offers an average mileage of around 14 KMPL on the highway. the Kodiaq can easily achieve in excess of 15.5 kmpl. While mileage plays a big role in the success of many smaller SUVs, we don’t think that the not-so-large difference in the mileage figures of these two SUVs would give the Skoda model a huge advantage.
Skoda Kodiaq vs Toyota Fortuner Dimensions
Dimensions | Skoda Kodiaq | Toyota Fortuner |
Length | 4,697 mm | 4,795 mm |
Breadth | 1,882 mm | 1,855 mm |
Height | 1,676 mm | 1,835 mm |
Wheelbase | 2,791 mm | 2,745 mm |
Seating Capacity | 7 | 7 |
Boot-space | 270-litres | 296-litres |
As you can see in the comparison table above, the Fortuner is the longer and the taller of the two. However, it’s the Kodiaq that’s wider. Also, worth a mention here is the fact that the Kodiaq also benefits from a longer wheelbase. The Fortuner, however, offers slightly higher boot-space. Both the SUVs offer seven seats. We think that it’s tough to pick out a clear winner if you compare only the dimensions. While the Fortuner is definitely the longer and the taller of the two, the Kodiaq more than makes up for its shortcoming by offering more width and a longer wheelbase. None of the two SUVs offer a lot of space in the third row, which means the last two seats are best for usage by kids.
