New Maruti S Cross 2017 prices are finally out! The facelift has gone on sale in four trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha. The new model is on sale in the price range of Rs 8.49 lakh to Rs 11.29 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The new 2017 Maruti S Cross facelift looks fresher, has more features, and gets the SHVS mild-hybrid technology for higher mileage. Unfortunately, the 1.6-litre engine variant has been discontinued, which is likely to leave the performance enthusiasts disappointed. However, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd insists that the demand for the more powerful engine was too low. Anyway, coming back to the S-Cross facelift, the new model definitely has a higher appeal than its earlier version. Here are all the details on the facelift.

The new Maruti S Cross 2017 gets a comprehensively updated front-end. The side profile remains much the same, but the alloy wheels are new and more attractive. The rear-end gets a set of updated taillamps. The refresh also brings in wider tyres (215/60 R16 vs 205/60 R16 earlier), which aid handling slightly.

Even the interior gets a host of changes. There’s a lot more usage of soft-touch plastics and higher quality materials. The seats get an upholstery change, which brings in a slightly richer fabric. The touchscreen infotainment system now supports Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay. The instrument cluster is also new. Other than this, the car continues to offer a fairly spacious interior setup. There’s enough space for five and thanks to the minor changes that the recent facelift brings in, the cabin gets even better.
New Maruti S Cross 2017 Facelift Review Video
There has been a big change in the car’s specifications. Unlike the pre-facelift, the new 2017 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross doesn’t offer the powerful 1.6-litre DDIS 320 Diesel engine option. The 1.3-litre DDIS 200 Diesel engine, which was also available on the previous version, gets the SHVS mild-hybrid technology. With this, the S Cross becomes the third Maruti car, after the Ciaz and the Ertiga, to get this technology. Thanks to SHVS, mileage sees a considerable boost. The new car has an ARAI-tested fuel mileage of 25.1 kmpl. The engine power and torque figures are rated at 88.47 BHP and 200 Nm respectively.
The S-Cross made it to the ever-evolving Indian car market back in 2015. This crossover became the first product to be sold under the NEXA premium dealerships. While this crossover did manage to create a niche for itself, it could never post segment-leading sales figures. The facelift should now help the car find more takers and hence, help the company post better sales figures. The 2017 Maruti S Cross facelift made its public debut at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show last year. Even the refreshed model will be sold under the NEXA premium dealerships. With our market gradually opening up to crossovers (the Honda WRV is a proof enough), the 2017 model Maruti S Cross should have a better chance this time around.
The S-Cross was first launched in India in 2015. It became the first Maruti product to go on sale through the Premium Nexa outlets. While it’s a really likeable car, somehow, it failed to tickle the taste buds of the car buyers. Now, it looks like the company is all set to give it a much need shot in the arm by launching the mid-life facelift. With our market gradually opening up to crossovers (the Honda WRV is a proof enough), the 2017 Maruti S Cross facelift should have a better chance this time around. Exactly like the current car, even the new version will retail only through the Nexa dealerships.

Minimum | Rs. 8.49 Lakh |
Maximum | Rs. 11.29 Lakh |
The new 2017 model of this crossover comes with a handful of exterior and interior changes along with mild hybrid technology for the 1.3-litre engine. While the pricier 1.6-litre variant has been shown the door, there hasn’t been a big change in the prices of the crossover. This is because of the higher taxation due to the GST introduction. Another reason is the introduction of the SHVS mild hybrid technology. The new S Cross facelift 2017 model has a starting price of Rs 8.49 lakh. The top-end model costs Rs 11.29 lakh. Here is the full price list-

For the new 2017 model, the flagship car from nation’s largest carmaker ditches the 1.6-litre turbo Diesel engine. It will now offer the 1.3-litre DDIS 200 unit only. However, the Fiat-sourced engine gets the SHVS mild hybrid technology that makes it deliver a higher mileage. SHVS is already being offered on the Ertiga and the Ciaz. This Fiat-sourced turbocharged Diesel engine comes with a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) and goes on to produce a maximum power of 89 BHP and a peak torque of 200 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Basically, Maruti’s Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) aids the engine through a brake energy regeneration and an Integrated Starter Generator. So, basically, the energy produced while applying brakes is changed into electricity through this generator. This electricity is then stored in the battery, which in turn is used to power the alternator. In such a system, the alternator isn’t dependent on the engine for power. Hence, this leads to a slight increase in the car’s average mileage.
New Maruti S Cross 2017 Mileage
City | 20 KMPL |
Highway | 27 KMPL |
Overall | 23 KMPL |
The introduction of SHVS mild hybrid technology should help the new Maruti S Cross 2017 offer a higher average mileage than the current model. Expect the ARAI-certified figure to be somewhere north of 27 KMPL. Even in real world driving conditions, the new model will be able to deliver as much as 23 KMPL on the highway and 20 KMPL in city. The increase in mileage should help the car attract more buyers.

New Maruti S Cross 2017 Exterior
The new Maruti S Cross 2017 facelift boasts a comprehensively revised front facade. The new front fascia comes with a bolder grille, an updated front bumper, and a set of new headlamps. These headlamps offer a projector setup along with stylish LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The new front grille comes finished in chrome and makes the updated car’s front-end look all the more premium. The side profile remains largely the same. The only difference arises out of the more stylish alloy wheels. At the rear, the S Cross 2017 facelift comes with an updated set of taillamps.
We think the facelift looks really more modern than the current model. We have always been fond of the design and styling of this flagship Maruti product. The latest set of styling updates make the car even better in terms of its visual appeal. The car’s front-end looks more modern and attractive. All the changes really work well to make the crossover more attractive
New Maruti S Cross 2017 Interior
In all frankness, the interior doesn’t even get half the number of changes as the exterior. that said, the updates do work well to give the car a more premium feel. The dashboard gets some soft touch plastic while the seats get a new upholstery. The centre console gets some revisions, too. It continues to hold the excellent SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment unit. This 7.0-inch unit offers Android Auto, Mirror Link, and Apple CarPlay.
The interior of the S Cross can easily accommodate five passengers in reasonable comfort. This car scores highly on ergonomics and passenger comfort. With the introduction of the new Maruti SCross facelift 2017, the car should get even better in most of these aspects
New Maruti S Cross 2017 Engine and Gearbox
In most international markets, the Suzuki S-Cross is available with two Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engines – 1.0-litre, three-cylinder and 1.4-litre, four-cylinder. Yes, this is the same 1.0-litre engine that powers the Baleno RS. Anyway, coming back to the S Cross, these motors output 112 BHP-170 Nm and 140 BHP-220 Nm respectively. Both the motors offer two transmission options- 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. ALLGRIP All Wheel Drive system is available as an option on the 1.4-litre Boosterjet variant. The Diesel engine on sale is the same Fiat-sourced 1.6-litre Turbo-Diesel motor that has been available in India as well. This motor produces a maximum power of 120 BHP and a peak torque of 320 Nm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and a DCT and ALLGRIP AWD as optional in Europe. In India, it gets a 6-speed manual gearbox only.
1.6 Engine Variant Axed!
With the 2017 model year facelift, however, the 1.6-litre engine will be no longer available. The updated car will go on sale only with one engine option – Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDIS 200 turbo Diesel engine. This engine produces 89 BHP and 200 Nm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Until now, speculations were rife that the India-spec model will also get a 1.5-liter Petrol engine that outputs 100 BHP-133 Nm. However, it is now for sure that there won’t be a petrol engine option. India will get the 1.3-litre Diesel engine only. The good part is that this engine will now offer Maruti’s SHVS mild hybrid technology. This should lead to a substantial increase in the car’s mileage.
