BMW official have confirmed that they will bring Mini, the iconic car brand to India. The Mini is very popular in Europe and is an iconic car like the Volkswagen Beetle and Fiat 500. The Mini will also be an iconic car which will be present in India to have a brand presence and will strengthen the reputation of BMW and Mini as car brands. The volumes market for such premium cars does not exist in India, so the Mini will most likely come as CBU only as the CKD assembly line investment can not be justified at the beginning.

What all cars and models of Mini will be launched in India is not decided or disclosed at the moment. We expect the popular Mini Cooper to make its way in some variant. The launch is expected in the calendar year 2012 in India since BMW needs to do its homework before it goes on with the CBU import.
