Mercedes Benz India, the Indian subsidiary of the renowned German car marque, has launched a new special edition of its GLC SUV to commemorate India’s 70th Independence Day. Dubbed as the new Mercedes GLC Celebration Edition, the new model comes with many new accessories and hence, comes across as a more attractive option to the regular model. The GLC SUV was launched in India in June 2016. The SUV has been well received by luxury crossover buyers and the latest special edition should further help the GLC establish a stronger foothold in India.

The new Mercedes GLC Celebration Edition has gone on sale in two variants- GLC 220d and GLC 300. While the former has an ex-showroom price of Rs 50.86 lakh, the latter costs Rs 51.25 lakh. As with most such special models, the new GLC Celebration Edition is available in limited numbers only.

On the outside, the GLC Celebration Edition gets LED logo projector integrated with the exit lamps on the passenger doors. So, basically, you can see a shadow of the three-pointed star every time you open the door to get in or get out. Also, the car’s ORVMs get a sporty black high gloss finish. The car’s front-end gets a chrome trim near the air-dam. There’s also a chrome strip at the rear. With the ‘Celebration Edition’ Mercedes-Benz India adds yet another exciting paint option in the GLC series in India – ‘Designo Hyacinth red’
Coming to the interior, the cabin gets sports pedals, Garmin Map Pilot system with a high resolution colored multimedia display. The Garmin Map Pilot SD card system, which offers User-friendly navigation, accurate map data and excellent route guidance, comes mated to the Audio 20 CD Telematics system.

Like we said, the new Mercedes GLC Celebration Edition is available in two engine variants – GLC 220d and GLC 300. The GLC 220d comes with a 2143cc turbocharged Diesel engine that outputs a max. power of 170 BHP and a peak torque of 400 Nm. On the other hand, the GLC 300 boasts a 1991cc naturally aspirated Petrol engine that outputs 245 BHP and 370 Nm. Both the engines come mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. While the GLC 220d can offer a peak mileage of 17.9 KMPL, the GLC 300 has a max. mileage figure of 11.5 KMPL.
