The new 2017 Maruti Dzire has been launched. The new model Dzire 2017, which is the third generation of Maruti’s popular entry-level sedan, looks modern, has a long list of features, and the tried-and-tested engines the old Dzire came with. Prices of the new Dzire start at Rs 5.45 lakh. Now, we’ve been getting queries regarding comparisons between the new Dzire and Maruti’s highly successful upper C-segment contender, the Ciaz. The Ciaz, being a larger, more expensive car, is obviously our pick of the two. But is the new Maruti Dzire so good that it will even attract potential customers of the Ciaz? We decided to compare the two Maruti sedans in our new 2017 Maruti Dzire vs Maruti Ciaz comparison review. Also See- 2017 Maruti Dzire Test Drive Review
While our comparison below highlights both the similarities and differences between the two Maruti sedans, we once again assert that these two don’t face any direct competition to each other. The only point of this comparison is that all those who have been aspiring to buy the Ciaz owing to dissatisfaction with the current Dzire can now have a good look at the new Dzire. The new Dzire is a lot more modern and upmarket product that the outgoing model. This means the gap between the Ciaz and the Dzire has reduced.

Hence, the premium it commands over the new Dzire is completely justified. But let’s not forget even the new Dzire offers a more premium experience than the earlier model. It comes with many new features and gets the same 1.3 L Diesel engine, albeit in a lower state of tune, as the Ciaz. New 2017 Maruti Dzire vs Maruti Ciaz Design Comparison
While both the Marutis here are fairly attractive models, their designs are really different when compared with each other. While the Ciaz was born out of the Authentics sedan concept, the Dzire is a close relative of the latest generation Swift hatchback. In comparison, the Ciaz was conceptualized as a sedan. The Ciaz is long, sleek and has some understated elegance to it. The Dzire’s design is louder and thanks to all that chrome, has more flamboyance. While the Ciaz is your typical three-box design, the Dzire, thanks to its sub 4-metre credentials, has a stubby boot.
When parked together, the Ciaz should look a lot better owing to its higher overall length. Surprisingly, however, the new Dzire is marginally wider. It’s also lower than its previous generation model. All this should give the new 2017 Dzire a more planted stance. While the Ciaz impresses with its long, sleek, almost stately (for a C-segmenter) look, the new Dzire looks fresh, somewhat flamboyant and even has a retro touch to its front-end.
New 2017 Maruti Dzire vs Maruti Ciaz Safety Interior Comparison
The interiors of both these cars are reflections of their respective exteriors. Akin to its exterior, the interior of the Ciaz offers neat, well designed surfaces that exude premiumness. In comparison, the interior of the new Dzire offers a touch of flamboyance thru bits like a flat-bottom steering wheel and sporty dials. The Ciaz offers a fairly more spacious cabin, which is mainly due to the really long wheelbase. Both front and rear passengers enjoy acres of legroom. Surprisingly, the new Dzire is wider than the Ciaz, which means akin to its pricier sibling, the new model of the compact sedan can now easily seat three adults at the rear.
New 2017 Maruti Dzire vs Maruti Ciaz Safety Comparison Verdict
- Price- Obviously, the Dzire is a lot cheaper. Also, thanks to the more features it now offers, some buyers of entry-level Ciaz models can now even look at the Dzire to save some money and yet get a feature-laden car.
- Specifications- The Ciaz offers more power, but the Diesel engines of both the models get the same engine, albeit in different states of tunes. The Ciaz is definitely more powerful of the two, but the Dzire is not far behind.
- Mileage- The new Dzire is slightly more frugal than the Ciaz according to ARAI figures.
- Dimensions- The Ciaz is much longer, but the Dzire is surprisingly wider.
- Interior – Both the cars can comfortably seat 5 adults. However, the Ciaz offers higher legroom. It also offers a bigger boot.
- Design- Design is a matter of personal taste but we pick up the Ciaz over the Dzire for the understated elegance it has on offer.
So, as you must have observed by now, the Ciaz and the Dzire are really different from each other. Honestly, there shouldn’t even be any sort of direct comparison between those. While the Dzire is an entry-level sedan, the Ciaz is from a segment above and feels a lot more premium. Still, thanks to the new Dzire having upped the ante, some comparisons are bound to be drawn between these two C-segmenters from Maruti. The Dzire now offers most of the features that the top-end Ciaz does and even feels a lot more premium. This means those who don’t require a really spacious cabin and are looking for a considerably premium sedan with enough features can now even opt for a Dzire.
