Range Rover has revealed an all-new SUV that will make its public debut at Geneva in March. Called, the Range Rover Velar, the new Range Rover model slots in between the Evoque and the Ranger Rover Sport. Velar name is derived from the Latin word Velare meaning to veil or cover. Velar was used to refer to the original Range Rover prototypes of 1969. Land Rover officially unveiled the Range Rover Velar on March 1, 2017.

Land Rover Chief Design Officer, Gerry McGovern, said: “We call the Velar the avant garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything.”
The squat-ish rear has hints of an Evoque-like profile with a sloping roofline. Its nose borrows heavily from the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. In terms of size, it slots in between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport. Being a Range Rover, the Velar is loaded to the brim with features.

- Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Reverse Traffic Detection and Driver Condition Monitoring

Interestingly, JLR already has a product in its lineup between the Evoque and RR Sport- the Jaguar F-Pace. The upcoming Velar uses the same platform as the F-Pace and is also likely to feature the same engine lineup. Aside from the F-Pace, its other rivals include the Porsche Cayenne, BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.

Range Rover Velar India
As we have already mentioned earlier, the Velar made its debut on March 1, 2017. However, we’re not expecting its India launch to take place until early 2018. Currently, the Range Rover Evoque is priced in the Rs. 50-65 lakh range while the Range Rover Sport costs Rs. 1.2-2 Crore. According to estimates, the Range Rover Velar will cost around 70-90 lakhs.
