All New Volkswagen Passat Launched at Rs 29.99 Lakh

Volkswagen India, the Indian subsidiary of Europe’s leading car manufacturer, has launched the latest generation of its premium sedan, Passat. The new 2017 Volkswagen Passat India launch took place at an official event in New Delhi today and the new car becomes VW India’s first sedan to be based on the MQB platform. The latest generation VW Passat is already on sale in several international markets. In India, the Passat will launch with a 2.0 L Diesel initially. Petrol and Plug-in Hybrid variants are expected to join the lineup eventually. It may be noted that the new Volkswagen Passat made its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in New Delhi. The new Passat will be a direct rival to the Skoda Superb, Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. The new Passat 2017 comes to us with a 2.0 L Diesel powerplant. However, we are also expecting the Passat GTE with a Hybrid powertrain to join the lineup eventually. The new Passat’s hybrid powertrain combines a 1.4L TFSI petrol engine with an electric motor.

New 2017 Volkswagen Passat Price in India

The new Passat is assembled in India. It has a starting price of Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The fully loaded variant costs Rs 32.99 lakh (ex-showroom) . The hybrid variant, when launched, however, will be imported into the country via CBU route. Hence, the 2017 Passat Hybrid could have a sticker price of around Rs 40 Lakh in India. The Passat Hybrid, much like the Accord Hybrid, won’t benefit from the FAME scheme. It maybe noted that the Camry Hybrid is assembled in India and hence, benefits from FAME scheme. This leads to a really competitive price tag.

The new Passat 2017 launches with 2.0L TDI, 177 PS engine mated to a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox. A Petrol-hybrid powertrain should follow in a few months. The Diesel engine for the 2017 Passat displaces 2.0-litre and is a turbocharged unit. It comes mated to a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The motor produces a maximum power of 177 PS along with a peak torque of 400 Nm.

New 2017 Volkswagen Passat Engine & Transmission

The new 2017 Volkswagen Passat launches in India with a Diesel heart. It is the VW’s familiar 2.0 L TDI motor and is available in its 177 PS – 400 Nm state of tune. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed DSG. The other powertrain option, that could join the lineup later on, will be the 1.4 L Petrol Hybrid setup.

The hybrid engine of the 2017 VW Passat has a peak torque of 400 Nm. This hybrid setup comes mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The hybrid setup has a max. range of up to 1,000 KMS. The car can hit 100 KMPH from a standstill in just 8 seconds. The top speed is 220 KMPH. The setup provides four different driving modes – E-mode, Battery Charge, Hybrid and GTE.

The regular petrol variant gets a 1.8-litre TFSI unit. It has a max. power 180 BHP and 320 Nm. This engine outputs 250 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be available with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
