The AMT variant of the Tiago is based on the top end XZ trim. It is priced at Rs. 5.39 lakh. Which makes the Tiago AMT more expensive than the other two. But, at the same time, it is also more feature rich. Maruti offers the lowest level LXi trim of the Celerio with an AMT option as well making it the cheapest one here.

Tata Tiago’s engine is bigger and hence more powerful than the Celerio and Wagon R’s. Maruti Celerio AMT and Wagon R AMT employ same 998 cc engine that puts out 67 bhp – 90 Nm. All three cars come with a 5-speed AMT. Tata is yet to reveal the official fuel efficiency figures of the Tiago AMT. In most cases, mileage doesn’t seem to take a hit due to an AMT unit.

The Tiago not just one of the best Tata designs yet, but also one of the best-looking hatchbacks right now. Maruti designers have kept the Celerio’s exteriors simple. Which means it will appeal to a wide variety of audience. Wagon R’s boxy dimensions are quite unappealing, but help maximize interior space. In terms of design, the Tiago is new and easily the most appealing cars in this comparison.
The cabin of all three cars is a decent place to be in. Tata has given the Tiago’s dashboard an all-black finish. Buyers can also opt for body colored highlights to jazz things up a little. Much like the exterior, Celerio’s exterior is simple, yet functional. Both Wagon R and Celerio get a dual-tone treatment for the cabin. All cars get an integrated in-car audio system. Maruti Wagon R’s steering does not feature audio controls.

Tata’s Tiago was already a very good buy in the segment. It looks good and offers great value for money. The new automatic model only helps enhance its appeal in the market. Maruti Celerio and Wagon R are already strong sellers in the segment. The introduction of the Tiago AMT should help Tata increase its foothold in this particular segment.
- Price – Tata Tiago AMT, available only in the top end trim, is more expensive than the two Maruti Suzukis. However, it also boasts a bigger engine and a longer list of features.
- Specifications – Celerio AMT and Wagon R AMT get the same 1.0 L petrol engine. Tiago AMT’s 1.2 L petrol unit is bigger and more powerful than the other two.
- Features – Tiago AMT is the more feature rich of the three. Followed by the Celerio AMT and then Wagon R AMT.
- Design – It’s really a matter of personal taste. Tiago is a relatively newer face so it might be a bit more appealing right now.
