Tata‘s new Tiago is off to a reasonably good start in the market. Now, the manufacturer is looking to further that run with the addition of an automatic transmission to the petrol variants. Tata Tiago AMT Automatic Price in India

The pricing of the Tiago has been very aggressive and Tata is following the same path for the automatic models. Tata Tiago Automatic model is available only in the top-end XZA trim, which is based on the XZ trim. It has an ex-showroom price of Rs 5.39 lakh in New Delhi. In Mumbai, the Tiago AMT costs Rs 5.73 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, prices of Celerio AMT start at Rs 4.64 lakh. However, the Tiago XZA offers a lot more kit and a better drive experience.

One of the benefits of an AMT ‘box is the fact that mileage doesn’t take much of a hit. Expect the Tiago AMT’s fuel efficiency to be similar to the manual model.

Tata Tiago AMT Automatic Specifications

Initially, the Tata Tiago AMT Automatic will be available only with the petrol engine. This 1.2 L 3-cylinder unit puts out 85 PS of max power and 114 Nm of peak torque. The automatic gearbox that handles transmission duties is a 5-speed AMT unit. This 5-speed AMT also does duty on the Nano and the Zest; mated to the Diesel motor in the latter’s case. Eventually, Tiago diesel will also get automatic variants.

Tata Tiago AMT Automatic Engine and Transmission

Initially, only petrol variants of the Tiago will get the automatic transmission, which is a 5-speed AMT. The 1.2-litre petrol engine for the Tiago boasts a max power output of 85 PS and a peak torque of 114 Nm. Like the 5-speed AMT in the Nano, the Tiago’s unit also features a crawl function and ‘Sport’ mode. AMT gearboxes don’t usually affect fuel economy as severely as other conventional automatics. We expect the upcoming Tata Tiago AMT to return a mileage of around 22 km/l (ARAI figure). This 5-speed AMT unit could find it way to diesel variants of the Tiago a few months.
