Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. is facing tough time dealing with its 2000 workers who have gone on strike since Saturday 4th June 2011. The workers are demanding for recognition of a new Worker’s union. Maruti Spokesmen told media that the strike is illegal and they are in talks with the workers and trying to convince them to withdraw the strike. In a development during this strike, 11 agitating workers have been suspended from their job on disciplinary grounds. The production has stopped at the Manesar Plant in Haryana which is the second plant of Maruti, main plant is in Gurgaon which is still operational.
The strike is costing losses to Maruti with Maruti loosing over 600 cars production already. The Manesar plant is very important for Maruti as it produces some important cars like Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift Dzire which are among the most popular cars from Maruti and come with a long waiting period already. Also this is a crucial time for Maruti as the launch of New Model of Maruti Swift 2011 launch is just around the corner.
We hope Maruti management will soon resolve the issue and production will come back to normal as loosing any time or production affects financial position of Maruti as well as impacts its stock prices as well. We hope this strike will not further push away the launch date of Maruti Swift 2011.
