The Vitara Brezza was easily on of the most talked about vehicles at this year’s Auto Expo. The Vitara Brezza has been designed and developed almost completely in India and the latest EcoSport-adversary was launched earlier this month. However, the Maruti Vitara poses a threat not just to the Ford EcoSport or the Mahindra TUV300, but also to SUVs from a segment higher. These include the Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta. The launch of the Vitara Brezza is also bad news for one of Maruti’s own – the S-Cross. The Baleno ate into the sales of the Swift and the Vitara Brezza looks all set to do the same to the S-Cross. The recent price reductions have made the S-Cross very good value for money. But it also means that there will be major overlap in the prices of the Brezza and the S-Cross 1.3. Maruti has managed to price the Brezza below 7 lacs. However, we should point out the S-Cross 1.6, following the price reduction, is now outstanding value for money. It is the one we would recommend, that is if you can get past the hatchback-crossover appearance.

Maruti Vitara Brezza vs S-Cross – Specifications

Here’s where this Maruti Vitara Brezza vs S-Cross comparison gets really interesting. Now the S-Cross can be had with either a 1.3 L diesel or a 1.6 L diesel, but the former accounts for the major chunk of the S-Cross’ total sales. This particular 1.3 L DDiS 200 engine also powers the Vitara Brezza, which means both cars boast of identical figures. Maruti is yet to reveal the exact mileage figures of the Vitara Brezza, but we’re expecting the ARAI-rated mileage to be somewhere around 24 kpl.

You’ll get slightly better mileage figures from the Brezza. The S-Cross boasts of a marginally higher boot capacity, but slightly lower ground clearance.

Maruti Vitara Brezza vs S-Cross – Features

Being a slightly more premium offering than the Brezza, the S-Cross offers slightly more in terms of features. That said, there aren’t many stand-out differences in terms of the equipment on offer. Maruti is offering both cars with driver side airbag and ABS as standard and top spec trims of both cars get the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system. Top of the line variants of both these cars feature projector headlamp units and LED daytime running lights. Additionally, Maruti will offer the Vitara Brezza with loads of customization options like a dual tone paint scheme and other visual accessories, a move that is sure to attract a lot of customers.

Maruti Vitara Brezza vs S-Cross – Design

The S-Cross looks like a jacked up hatchback, which is one of the reasons why Indian buyers tend to look away. No such issues with the Vitara Brezza. It gets all the quintessential design traits of SUVs that give it the required look, such as the flat, high set bonnet, body cladding, short overhangs and square wheel arches. However, the tail section of both these crossovers looks a bit bland.

Step inside and you will be greeted by a sea of black as Maruti has given the cabin of the S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza the “all black” treatment. The steering wheels are identical and even the Brezza’s centre console bears more than a passing resemblance to the S-Cross’. The S-Cross gets silver highlights on the centre console and the steering while the Vitara Brezza features piano black highlights.

• Price – Owing to the recent price cuts on the S-Cross, there is an overlap in the prices of both crossovers.
• Specifications – The 1.3 L DDiS 200 diesel engine is shared by the Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross. Both have identical power and torque figures. The former is marginally more fuel efficient.
• Features – Not much sets the two apart in terms of features. The Brezza will be offered with a whole host of customization options, though.
• Design – The Maruti Vitara Brezza’s design is more in line with SUVs when compared to that of the S-Cross.
