Honda has made clear its intentions of snatching the lead away from Hero MotoCorp and has backed this claim with the 15 product launches they have in store for 2015. The Japanese automobile giant has just launched its latest commuter bike for India, the Honda Livo. The motorcycle is positioned in the fiercely competitive 110cc commuter bike segment where it goes up against the Hero Passion X Pro, Bajaj Discover 100 M, TVS Star City Plus and Mahindra Centuro. So how does the new entrant compare with the existing 110cc bikes in India? Find the answer in our Honda Livo vs Hero Passion X Pro vs Bajaj Discover 100 M vs Mahindra Centuro vs TVS Star City Plus comparison story.

Design
The Livo looks pretty sporty for a commuter bike thanks to its slightly aggressive and edgy styling. Being a brand new motorcycle, the Honda Livo is a fresh face in the market which gives it a slight edge over the competition. The rear of the Honda fails to impress thanks to its Dream Yuga-like tail lamp. Among the rest of the bikes, the Bajaj Discover 100 M is the one that looks the best with its sporty stance and interesting alloys. The Hero Passion X Pro’s body graphics are a bit overdone. The Mahindra Centuro LED pilot lamps and golden tube design element which give it a distinctive look. The TVS Star City Plus is the most boring looking bike of the lot.
Looks are a matter of personal taste, but we think the Bajaj Discover 100 M edges out the Honda Livo and Hero Passion very slightly as the best looking bike of the lot.

Features
All bikes come with black alloy wheels, but the Discover’s are easily the most attractive of the lot. The Hero Passion X Pro, Bajaj Discover 100 M and Mahindra Centuro comes with twin pilot lamps on the sides of the headlamp with the Centuro getting LEDs, whereas the Livo and Star City get one single headlamp unit. The Honda Livo does not feature any body graphics which is in stark contrast to the Passion’s elaborate body graphics. Other bikes get tastefully designed graphics. Features are the biggest selling points of the Centuro which gets features like engine immobilizer, follow me home headlamps, anithteft alarm, multi function flip key, service reminder in the centre console, etc.

The Honda Livo and Hero Passion X Pro get the same engine, but the Passion X Pro has a higher power and torque output. All bikes come with an option of either drum brake or disc brakes up front except the TVS Star City Plus which gets only drum brakes. The disc brakes offered with the Discover 100 M are petal type. The claimed fuel economy of the Honda Livo is the least. Rest of the bikes deliver more or less the same mileage.

The cheapest bike of the lot is the TVS Star City+ followed by the Bajaj Discover 100 M. The Honda Livo is the most expensive motorcycle in this comparison followed by the Hero Passion X Pro.

Verdict
The Honda Livo and the Hero Passion X Pro are similar in terms of specifications and features. The latter edges ahead in terms of pricing, but only just. The Honda Livo gets better marks in terms of design and styling. If you have tight budget constraints then the TVS Star City+ makes a bit more sense as it can be had for just around 47k on disc brakes. When you consider the Pricing for similarly specced models the Bajaj Discover 100 M is the most pocket-friendly and also the most powerful of the lot. When it comes to after sales support and service Hero is easily the best in India.
[box type=”success” ]The TVS Star City+ is the cheapest, the Mahindra Centuro gets the most extensive features list and the Honda Livo is the newest, but the least fuel efficient.[/box]
