TVS motors India is working on an electric scooter for India. TVS had already introduced an electric two wheeler called the Scooty Teenz which did not do well in India and was eventually phased out. With the rise in electric two wheelers catching up in India, especially in the metro cities, TVS has decided to launch its electric scooter in India in 2012. Another important factor attracting TVS into the electric scooter launch is the excise duty benefits and sops announced by the Finance minister in the Indian Union Budget 2011
TVS Motor Company president (Marketing) H. S. Goindi quoted:
“We are working on introducing electric scooters and these are being experimented for the launch. By some time next fiscal, it will come (to the market),”
“We will launch only scooters in electric mode. The products will initially run on lead acid batteries and later we may develop some other technology also,”
