The Honda Jazz will begin it’s second innings in India this year and will be aiming for what the previous iteration of the Jazz could not achieve. Supremacy. This time Honda has done its homework thoroughly and they seem to have addressed all the negatives of the previous model while keeping the positives intact. The new Honda Jazz will be gunning for the slightly premium end of the hatchback segment, specifically the Hyundai Elite i20 and the upcoming Suzuki Fronx (YRA Hatchback). Design
Exterior
On the outside, the new Jazz retains the same mono-volume profile as the old model ensuring that it is instantly recognizable as a Honda Jazz. Up front, the headlamps are now narrower and sleeker and flow nicely into the grille which, like the Honda City houses a thick bar carrying the Honda logo. Thankfully this one is finished in black instead of chrome. The fog lamps are new and the 2015 Honda Jazz also features a larger air intake that is placed slightly lower compared to the old Jazz. The slab-like sides of the previous generation car have given way to a more sculpted side comprising of two very strong character lines, the upper one flowing very nicely into the tail lamps. The rear bumpers get black inserts similar in shape to the fog lamps cluster. There are reflectors on either side of the windscreen making the tail lamp cluster look taller.
Interior
The interiors of the new Jazz have been inspired by the Honda City and are more futuristic than before. However, they retain the old Jazz’s core strength- space. The interior room is more than any other hatchback on sale. The new model Jazz gets a touchscreen infotainment system and touch sensitive control for the climate control unit. Both these features were not present in the previous iteration. The boot also boasts of best in class storage capacity and there are the magic seats from the previous gen present in the new model that increase usability.
Price
Prices of the new Honda Jazz are at par with the Hyundai Elite i20 for the entry level variants and slightly higher for the top-spec trims at. This is another area where Honda has taken a massive step forward thanks to heavy localisation. Final prices are as follows.

Specification
The new Honda Jazz will continue to use the 1.2 litre iVTEC petrol which will produce around 90 PS power and 110 Nm torque. But the biggest change in the engine line-up is the addition of the 1.5 litre iDTEC diesel motor borrowed from the Amaze/Mobilio/City. The lack of a diesel option seriously hurt the previous model’s chances in the market and this unit will help boost sales of the hatchback. The diesel engine produces 100 PS power and 200 Nm torque. We expect the new Honda Jazz to have class leading mileage in the range of 25 kmpl.
Features
- While the old Honda Jazz came with a decent level of equipment, the new one will come packed with features to match the competition.
- Additions to the features list include a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and AUX and USB support, touch-sensitive controls for the aircon, CVT transmission with paddle shifters.
- However, only the top-level trims will get the magic seats option. Our guess is that this move will help lower costs of the base variants.
- Honda has also added a reversing camera to the new Honda Jazz.
The new model Honda Jazz addresses all the drawbacks of the old Jazz and retains all the good qualities of the old model. Its looks smart, is supremely spacious and comes with Honda’s strong brand value. More importantly, it is cheaper than before and will come equipped with a diesel engine option.
