Specification
The Hyundai i20 Diesel Automatic will get a 6-speed automatic gearbox borrowed from the Elantra instead of the Verna‘s 4-speed unit. The diesel motor, which is a 1.4 litre unit, produces 89 bhp and 220 Nm and returns a very healthy 22.54 kmpl (claimed). With the addition of the automatic transmission, these fuel efficiency figures are likely to take a slight dip.
The Hyundai i20 is already a very competent hatchback and would do well with an optional automatic transmission. However, this addition will bump up prices to around the INR 9 lakh mark (ex-showroom) which is slightly on the higher side for a hatchback. But the Indian audience is maturing fast and might be ready to shell out extra money for the added convenience of an automatic transmission.
