Hyundai India could launch an ix35-based SUV in 2018
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. which is currently the second highest selling carmaker in India, is eyeing a 20 percent market share. And to achieve its ambition, Hyundai India will be, in most likelihood, focus really hard on some of the fastest growing segments of our car market. Basically, this means that the Indian subsidiary of the popular Korean car giant could come up with a handful of new SUVs and MPVs for us. While the Hyundai ix25 is sure to come to us later this year, a report by Economic Times states that the Hyundai ix35 India launch too could be in the offing! The Hyundai ix35 SUV, if launched in India, would rival the very successful Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming Land Rover Discovery Sport based SUV from Tata Motors. While the Hyundai ix35 for India won’t be exactly like the international-spec model, the upcoming SUV is very likely to share in plenty with the car you see in the image below.

There are good chances that the 2016 Hyundai Tucson, which was recently revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, and is the successor of the ix35, will also donate some bits to the India-spec Hyundai SUV. The new Tuscon in 4,475 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,645 mm high. It has a wheelbase of 2,670 mm. In Hyundai’s product portfolio for India, the Hyundai ix35-based SUV will sit between the upcoming ix25 SUV and the Santa Fe.

Price
While the Hyundai ix35’s price for Indian market would be announced only at the time of its launch, it is expected to have a base price of INR 13 lacs. Hyundai India has always made it a point to price its models ultra competitively and pricing strategy for the ix35, in most likelihood, won’t be any different.

The Tuscon has on offer a 1.6-litre T-GDI gasoline motor and 1.7-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines on offer. The SUV is available in both 2WD and 4WD guises.
