General motors has confirmed the information that its will soon launch the Chevrolet iconic car Chevrolet Camaro in India. The timeline for the launch will be the end of year 2011. The speculation of the launch of Chevrolet Camaro and Chevrolet Corvette has been high ever since the display of Camaro at the Auto Expo 2010 in Delhi. Its now official that General Motors will soon start to manufacture the right hand drive variant for India, which will be imported to Indian as a CBU which will attract heavy import duties. The purpose behind the launch is to strengthen the Chevrolet brand in India. GM is not expecting high sales volume of this premium car and will not assemble or manufacture Camaro in India to reduce the cost.
The ex-showroom price of Camaro in India is expected to be around Rs. 45 Lakhs.
