Koenigsegg , the Swedish car maker recently revealed the new car NLV Quant Electric Supercar and believe it or not but this machine is one example of extreme engineering. Koenigsegg previously presented the car concept at Geneva in 2009 and this year the car’s Full scale model, en route to production, will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show 2010.
The idea for developing a future car like this was offered by another Swedish firm named NLV Solar AG – a pioneer in photovoltaic and electrical power technology. NLV approached Koenigsegg and suggested to develop a car incorporating the solar technology invented by the company and the result of all these considerations and plans lead to the 4-seater Quant electric supercar.
Specifications of NLV Quant Electric Supercar
Koenigsegg NLV Quant Engine
The car features two A.C induction electric motors combined to generating an impressive 512HP and 527 pound-feet of torque and employs a rear wheel drive. The design with twin motors eliminates the bevel gears or a differential conventionally used, simplifying the lay-out and providing constant and controlled power proportioning to the rear wheels for both modes – Drive and Coast mode.
Koenigsegg NLV Quant Chassis
The curb weight of the car is just under 4000 pounds and being lighter the car sprints from 0-too km/h in 5.2 seconds and makes it reach a top speed of 170mph. The NLV Quant will feature a carbon-fiber monotube backbone chassis along with a power storage system which is specially designed by NLV and is called Flow Accumulator Energy Storage (FAES) which weighs nearly 450 kg and is free from any hazardous content like heavy metals which do come in lithium-ion batteries being used by most other car manufacturers.
Koenigsegg NLV Quant Energy Consumption
According to NLV the FAES system can make the vehicle cover almost 300 miles in one go when charged for 20 minutes and to help the car reach this figure of mileage a thin film of solar cell coating has been applied and to save every quantum of energy the car is also fitted with a Brake Energy Recovery System, found in most of the high end cars.
Koenigsegg NLV Quant Dimensions and Interiors
The NLV Quant can be compared to high and luxury cars in terms of both features and dimensions since the car is 16 feet in length. Talking about the overall features the car will be sporting Gull Wing Doors as recently found in Mercedes Benz SLS AMG and accommodates 4 passengers at a time. Interiors include multiple infotainment display screens, tri-zone climate control, and LED detailing.
