It has been revealed that Ssangyong X100 compact SUV will be launched in domestic market Korea, in early 2015. Ssangyong, owned by Mahinda, is the fourth largest South Korea-based automobile manufacturer while Mahindra is one of the largest vehicle manufacturers by production in India. The car is further expected to be launched in China and Europe which are considered as growing SUV markets. Ssangyong X100 is named as Tivoli, based on the name of an Italian town close to Rome. At the Guangzhou Auto Show, Ssangyong revealed about its plans to launch the car in Korea in early 2015.

It will come with with a 1.6-liter engine and will be available with 2WD (Two/Front Wheel Drive) and 4WD (Four Wheel Drive). The engine is expected to be petrol since China is a petrol loving country. The design of X100 is based on XIV Air and XIV Adventure concepts which were showcased earlier at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. This South Korean automaker is expecting to double its sales by 2016 with X100 and is based on monocoque platform.
The only offering by Ssangyong in India is Rexton. Ssangyong Rexton comes with RX270 Xdi and RX270 XVT engines, mated with 5-speed E-tronic automatic transmission producing 162 BHP of power at 4000 rpm and 340 Nm of peak torque at 1800-3250 rpm.

About the launch of X100 in India, Mr. Pravin Shah, the Chief Executive in the Automotive Division of Mahindra and Mahindra said, ‘’it is rather early to decide if X100 can fit into our product portfolio, if the market environment is feasible, then it is a suitable option, nothing is really decided at the moment.”
X100 will compete with Ford EcoSport, Hyundai ix25 and Renault Duster. It will be launched in Korea in first quarter of 2015. Details about the pricing and specifications of the car have not yet been revealed. If launched in India, this car may attract a lot of customers, but officially there is no update about its launch in India.
